RECENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUES FOR THE 2016 TUCSON DCT. MY 2016 VELOSTER TURBO DCT HAS HAD THE IDENTICAL ISSUES, WHICH BEGAN JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR BRAND NEW. IT'S BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP FOR 5 MONTHS NOW, TOTALING OVER 70 DAYS. THERE HAVE BEEN GAS ISSUES - GAS FUMES SMELL OUTSIDE AND INSIDE VEHICLE, LOSING GAS ABNORMALLY FAST WHEN DRIVING, GAS TANK NOT FILLING TO FULL. THE AC RATTLES INTERMITTENTLY AND HAS BLOWN HEAT OFF AND ON. MOST IMPORTANTLY IS THE SAFETY REGARDING THE 7 SPEED DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. IT IS INTERMITTENT, BUT I HAVE CAPTURED IT ON CAMERA THREE TIMES - ONCE PRIOR TO THE TRANSMISSION PARTS BEING REPLACED, AND THEN THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. AND TWICE AFTER THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. JUST LAST FRIDAY, I COULDN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT SEIZED TO SHIFT AND ACCELERATE PROPERLY FIVE TIMES IN A ROW, THE MOST IT HAS EVER HAPPENED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS PLACED BACK INTO A RENTAL. TODAY, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS "THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG" (THIS HAS BEEN SAID OVER THE COURSE OF 5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT'S INTERMITTENT) AND THEY'RE FORCING ME TO RETURN THE RENTAL - LEAVING ME WITH UNSAFE TRANSPORTATION YET AGAIN. I'VE RISKED MY LIFE FOR MONTHS TRYING TO CAPTURE VIDEO PROOF, AND I HAVE SENT THE VIDEO PROOF TO HYUNDAI - YET THEY ARE STILL MAKING MY RETURN THE RENTAL AND ARE NOT FIXING THE VEHICLE, NOR DO THEY HAVE A FIX FOR IT (ALREADY REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AND COMPUTER!!). THIS IS A VIDEO I CREATED AND UPLOADED TO YOUTUBE, SUMMARIZING SOME OF WHAT'S GONE ON AND THE VIDEO PROOF I HAVE. HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=1Y3ECBR07EM I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH NEVADA CONSUMER AFFAIRS WHO HAS ALREADY REVIEWED MY CASE AND TRIED NEGOTIATING WITH HYUNDAI. UPON TURNING AND GOING OVER ANY KIND OF SIGNIFICANT BUMPS OR UNEVEN SURFACES THE VEHICLE FISH-TALES FROM THE BACK. I HAVE TRIED IT ON DIFFERENT STREETS TO ENSURE ITS THE SAME ISSUE AND THE ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ON THE FREEWAY DUE TO A SMALL PATCH OF UNEVEN ROAD. I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER VEHICLES OVER THE SAME FREEWAY SPOT TO ENSURE IT WAST JUST MY VEHICLE BUT DID NOT GET THE SAME ISSUES AS I DO WITH MY VEHICLE. ALSO WHEN COMING TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP AND THEN PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE THE VEHICLE FORWARD THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY, EITHER IT WAITS TO ENGAGE AFTER THE CAR REACHES 4,000 RPM OR JERKS SUDDENLY INTO GEAR BOTH OCCUR ARE ON A DAILY BASIS. ANOTHER KEY PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE HAPPENS WHEN TAKING MY FOOT FIRMLY OFF THE BRAKE AND PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR ON A HILL, PER THE MANUFACTURER THE VEHICLE IS SUPPOSE TO WAIT ABOUT 15-20 SECONDS ON A HILL TO ALLOW ME TIME TO STEP ON THE GAS TO GET THE VEHICLE MOVING AND PREVENT ROLLBACK INTO TRAFFIC OR OBSTACLES BEHIND ME HOWEVER IT IS EITHER NOT WORKING CORRECTLY OR DEFECTIVE.

When my car 2016 Hyundai Veloster reached almost 95000 mileage the oil starts to dissipate much faster so started to do oil change much often. Recently and my care already at 97000 mileage. We are driving going up a hill and it started to make some noise kind of like a motorcycle noise and I know there is something wrong but no light warnings or anything. I was trying to push it to get to a safer side of the road because I have my 86 year old mother with me but the car did nor make it and heard something snap really loud and the car just stopped and saw a little bit of smoke. Had to stop immediately on the side of the road and it was a bad spot against the rail and that blocked the 2 doors on the right side. the car only have 3 doors so now my mother is stuck and had to figure out how to have her crawl out to get out the driver side of the vehicle. If the car was on fire that would have been really dangerous. Took it to the mechanic and my insurance inspector already saw the car and determined that there was some kind of rod that came off and that the engine is blown an that it is with a hole. it is beyond repair or if I do it will cost $5000-$6000. I bought it on 2018 with only 5000 miles on it. I kept up with yearly maintenance. I think it is insane that it will break that fast and we are traumatize with the danger. I am not ready financially for this.

FAQ

What are the most common owner complaints for the 2016 Hyundai Veloster?

The most reported complaint category for the 2016 Hyundai Veloster is ENGINE, with 123 owner reports. That is about 43% of all complaints logged here. Other recurring themes include ENGINE, POWER TRAIN, UNKNOWN OR OTHER.

Are complaints about the 2016 Hyundai Veloster a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 191 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2016 Hyundai Veloster?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict. Start with the top complaint categories, compare those themes against the recall report and maintenance guide, then inspect service records for evidence that the same problem areas were already addressed. If the same issue appears repeatedly across complaints and recalls, treat it as a real ownership-risk flag.

191 complaint reports involve higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components, which is enough to justify a focused inspection before purchase.
