I HAD TO COAST ACROSS A LANE OF TRAFFIC AND COME TO A STOP IN A GRASSY AREA TO AVOID BLOCKING THE HIGHWAY. HAD THERE BEEN TRAFFIC, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE. AS THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING UPHILL AT ABOUT 40 MPH, THE DRIVER BLACKED OUT OR LOST CONSCIOUSNESS AND DROVE DIRECTLY IN TO A LARGE GAZEBO IN THE CITY SQUARE DESTROYING THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY THE DRIVER WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE DRIVER WAS EXAMINED, DRUG TESTED AND ALCOHOL TESTED. ALL TEST RESULTS WERE NEGATIVE. THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES IN THIS VEHICLE LEADS US TO BELIEVE THE DRIVER MAY HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO CARBON MONOXIDE.

PURCHASED CERTIFIED WITH 15,478 AND CURRENT HIGHWAY MILES 63,412. TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED SYMPTOMS OF SLUGGISHNESS AND SLOWING DOWN WHEN DRIVING MY FATHER TO ER FOR SURGERY. MOST MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES (MOM-OPEN HEART SURGERY; SPOUSE-BRAIN TUMOR REMOVAL AND DAD-A COLOSTOMY). MY SPOUSE INDICATED THE TRANSMISSION BOGGED DOWN SLOWLY FROM 70, 60, 55MPH DOWN TO 0 MPH WITH NO POWER TO ENGAGE IN ANY GEAR. SPOUSE HEADING HOME WITH KIDS WHEN VAN JUST STOPPED WORKING AND WOULDN'T MOVE IN ANY GEAR EXCEPT PARK AND NEUTRAL. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AT 10:45 PM. WE PAID THE $150/DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND TRANS FLUID OK. TECH MENTIONED NEEDED A NEW $8,000/TRANSMISSION-ALL THE INNER MECHANICALS STOPPED WORKING.

11/13/2019

ON 6-11-2020, I ATTEMPTED TO PUT MY 2016 TRANSIT CONNECT INTO DRIVE FROM PARK. I WAS AT A FAST FOOD DRIVE-THRU. THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER STOPPED IN REVERSE. WE TRIED THE EMERGENCY NEUTRAL RESET AND IT WOULD NOT WORK. THE WRECKER DRIVER MENTIONED THAT A PART UNDER THE HOOD MIGHT BE RESPONSIBLE, NAMELY A SHIFTER BUSHING. HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM IN FUSIONS AND FOCUSES. HE WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY REPLACE THE CONNECTION LONG ENOUGH FOR US TO GET THE TRANSIT CONNECT ONTO THE WRECKER. THE DEALERSHIP DID DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE AS A SHIFTER BUSHING AND REPAIRED IT ON 6-12-2020. I RESEARCHED THE PART NUMBER AND DISCOVERED THAT A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THAT PART NUMBER ON 2013-2016 FUSIONS AND 2013-2014 ESCAPES. I BELIEVE THAT THE TRANSIT CONNECT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL SINCE THE PART NUMBER USED WAS THE SAME. *TR

SOME DRIVING POSITIONS MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO SEE THE SHIFT INDICATOR OR TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS. THIS MEANS IT MAY BE HARD TO TELL WHETHER THE TRANSMISSION IS A NEUTRAL, DRIVE OR MANUAL POSITION. I NEARLY HIT A DRIVER AND A CAR WASH BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEUTRAL AND IT WAS IN DRIVE. THERE IS AN OVERHANG THAT IS TOO LONG OBSCURING PART OF THE DASH.

WATER IS LEAKING DOWN INTO THE VEHICLE FROM UP ABOVE IN THE ROOF. THERE ARE CAPS LOCATED IN THESE CHANNELS ON THE EXTERIOR ROOF OF THIS VEHICLE. THERE WAS SNOW OVERNIGHT SITTING ON TOP OF THE VEHICLE. A PUDDLE FORMED INSIDE ON THE BACK PLASTIC ARM LEDGE. CEILING CARPET WAS WET UP ABOVE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE IN WET CONDITIONS AND THE WATER CONTINUED TO DRIP DOWN AFTER A 2 HOUR DRIVE IN RAIN. \WHEN WATER IS IN THESE CHANNELS ON THE EXTERIOR OF ROOF, IT COMES THROUGH SOMEHOW UNDER THESE CAPS AND SOAKS CEILING CARPET THUS CAUSING WATER TO DRIP DOWN. SEE IMAGE. IMAGE SHOWS WATER ON INTERIOR OF SIDE REAR WINDOW AS A RESULT OF DRIPPING DOWN INTO CABIN OF VEHICLE. THIS IMAGE TAKEN AFTER DRIVING TWO HOURS, HOWEVER THE WATER CAME THROUGH BOTH AS THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY (INITIALLY MELTING SNOW) AND ALSO WHILE DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS. CAR IS 3.5 YEARS OLD.

1/2 OF THE WINDSHIELD SEAL FAILED LEAVING THE WINDSHIELD UNATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED IT WAS LOOSE WHEN CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE NEXT MORNING I WENT TO A GLASS REPAIR SHOP. THE MANAGER SAID NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AROUND DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES AND TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE SEAL SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED WITHIN 3 YEARS. THE SERVICE MANAGER WANTED ME TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AROUND UNTIL THEY HAD AN OPENING IN APPOINTMENTS. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT WITH ONLY 1/2 OF THE WINDSHIELD SEAL INTACT. 2016 FORD TRANSIT CONNECT TITANIUM. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS GLARES ON WINDSHIELD WHICH THEY FEEL TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. *LD *JS

1/26/2018

The windshield was leaking at the top on my van and my friends, both 2016 Ford Transit Connect's. passenger vans. It then popped out at the top when cleaning the inside of the windshield with a cloth, not pushing. Both of ours have now been replaced but think others should be checked. I was told by installer it could have come loose during an accident or even while driving at higher speeds on the highways. The seal, if any had been installed on the top edge, was not attached to the windshields glass. When I was at Kelly Ford in Melbourne Florida, for a recall repair, they are the one that pushed on the glass when cleaning it after their car wash. My friend's van was also at Kelly Ford where they were fixing the brakes that had locked up and failed right after she bought it. They replaced her windshield. They told me to get it fixed on my own which I did.

My SRS system has thrown the SRS light with code B00C0:11AB Passenger Occupancy sensor A short to ground. According to The weight pad is faulty and requires a $989 part replacement. The SRS system is disabled with the light on which is a safety issue in today's vehicles as none of the airbags will deploy in an accident with the SRS light currently on. No consumer related malfunction detected meaning there were no broken wires found nor evidence of a consumer triggered fault found such as wet or previously wet pad which could have caused the fault. It is an internal part failure.

7/19/2022

My Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor failed. Caused my airbag system to throw a code and become inoperative and SRS light on. Took to Middleton Ford in Middleton, WI and they confirmed the code indicated the OCS sensor has failed and required replacing to make the airbag system operable again. Meaning if I got into an accident, no airbags would deploy while the defective OCS sensor is in place. My insurance refused to inspect or cover the sensor as the failure wasn't related to an accident. Middleton Ford refused to cover the replacement cost regardless of cause of failure and said I must pay for the repair as my van was out of warranty. The sensor was replaced on 08/22/22 and see attached pics to prove the sensor had no visual issues and the cause of said failure is a manufacturer defect. Consumers should never have to pay for a defective part that failed due to no fault of their own.

On October 15, 2021, I was driving my 2016 Ford Transit Connect at approximately 55MPH on a state road. I was closing in on a slow-moving truck, and pressed the brake pedal just to slow down about 5MPH. At this point, the brake electronic control module failed, locking up the left front caliper, nearly pulling me into oncoming traffic. I was able to get stopped and pulled over to the side of the road, where I found the affected brake (left front) was smoking hot. I shut the vehicle off and waited for it to cool, and upon restarted, the brake ECM allowed the caliper to open enough to drive it home, and then directly to the repair shop. The repair shop determined the brake ECM was randomly locking up one of the four calipers about 1 in 10 times. There were no warning indicators prior to the issue. The shop has all the details (Runyon Corp, PO Box 384/445, West Main St. Morristown IN, 46161, (765) 763-1271. They would have the old brake ECM. This issue occurred with 64,342 miles on the vehicle. I have contacted Ford, and was told other, similar vehicles of the same year and model had a recall on the brake ECMs, but my VIN was not included in the recall. This is a dangerous situation, and had I not had both hands on the wheel, it would have caused a head-on collision.

In addition, the taillight wiring had begun to hang from the rear of the vehicle, causing the exhaust pipe to melt the wiring harness. The dealer informed the contact that the taillight sensor could not be repaired due to the part being on backorder. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

FAQ

What are the most common owner complaints for the 2016 Ford Transit Connect?

The most reported complaint category for the 2016 Ford Transit Connect is ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, with 14 owner reports. That is about 10% of all complaints logged here. Other recurring themes include ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, UNKNOWN OR OTHER.

Are complaints about the 2016 Ford Transit Connect a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 58 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2016 Ford Transit Connect?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict. Start with the top complaint categories, compare those themes against the recall report and maintenance guide, then inspect service records for evidence that the same problem areas were already addressed. If the same issue appears repeatedly across complaints and recalls, treat it as a real ownership-risk flag.

Are complaints about the 2016 Ford Transit Connect severe?

58 complaint reports involve higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components, which is enough to justify a focused inspection before purchase.

Complaint list entries are sourced from owner-submitted NHTSA ODI records.
