On December 29, 2022, I took delivery of a brand new 2023 ID.4 Pro S AWD with 20 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was showing a 12V battery warning the following day. I drove it for about 80 miles that day to ensure that the 12V battery is charged in case it was not properly looked after during transport and at the dealer. The next day, the vehicle was inoperable and immobilized. The 12V battery has failed and the accessory voltage dropped to 8V. Power steering stopped working, headlights were not working and it was not possible to put the vehicle in neutral. I called a tow truck via the Volkswagen roadside assistance. In preparation for the tow the operator attempted to boost the 12V battery from a portable jump starter. This was necessary to put the vehicle in neutral so that it can be moved. While doing that the vehicle became fully operable again and the operator encouraged me to drive the vehicle myself instead of getting it towed. I agreed and drove it to my garage where I put the 12V battery on a tender / battery charger. The following day the vehicle was again completely inoperable and it was now blocking my garage where is was difficult to access. I continued to charge the 12V battery for another full day. Now the vehicle turns on again and can be driven. However, there is a plethora of warnings including one that states that 12V battery supply is limited and the vehicle needs to be driven with care. I scheduled an appointment with a Volkswagen dealer for the following day. In summary, I took delivery of a brand new vehicle that almost immediately became inoperable. Given that it's very difficult to impossible to get the vehicle on a tow truck without the 12V accessory voltage powering its electronics the manufacturer should have taken precautions so that the battery cannot fail in such rapid and unpredictable fashion. There needs to be a way to put the vehicle in neutral in emergency situations such as this one.

The window on the ID.4 failed to operate as directed. When pulling the lever up to close the window, the window will open rather than close. The vehicle's window lever has two positions, first position controls the window and will cause it to go up/down. Second extended position is one-touch open/close and will open/close the window all the way. Using the first position control with the window 1/2 way open, pulling the lever up using the first position control will result in the window going down. This has put the safety of my child at risk as we had a large animal charging towards the vehicle and when i went to close the window, instead of closing, it opened the window fully. The issue was brought to attention of dealer and replicated in their presence. However, they blamed that because the operation did not generate an error code in the car's computer, there was nothing they can do according to their SOP. There are no error or warning messages relating to this operation but it can be replicated and video of error exists.

While I was pulling into a parking space in a parking garage, the car suddenly accelerated to a high rate of speed and crashed into the wall of the parking garage. The front and side air bags deployed. The crash caused significant front end damage to the car. The passenger (my husband) was not hurt but I have bruises on my head, nose, chest, and abdomen from the steering wheel and seat belt. I was not sure that I had caused the crash, so checked the internet for any information and found that this has occurred to other drivers of this car. I have not yet gotten the read out of the car's black box. There were no warnings or messages before the crash. I am currently arranging the towing of the car.

While stopped at a red light, the passenger door opened unprompted & by itself twice. I tried to lock the door on the driver panel, however that seemed to not work as the light did not illuminate signaling the doors locked. When I began driving, the same door opened again by itself. This is a major safety risk to have the doors open by themselves while driving.

I am having the (seemingly common) problem of a malfunctioning driver's door handle/latch. The safety issues are: A) the door will sometimes pop itself open while driving - it happened to me while making a right turn and I had to grab the open door with my hand; B) on one occasion I was unable to open the driver door from inside the vehicle, and had to climb out the passenger side; C) I also consider it a safety issue that I cannot lock the car to protect who/what is inside. The car starting having this issue around 1,000 miles, and is currently at the dealer waiting for a backordered part. I wanted to report this because, anecdotally, there are many others with the issue who are also waiting for a fix, and I don't think VWoA has the organizational ability to fix them voluntarily, nor enough qualified EV technicians.

On Saturday, December 24th, I was leaving to go to the gym with my wife. I pulled left out of the driveway and we heard a loud screeching type noise, very high-pitched. Many lights came on in the vehicle at that point. Too numerous to document actually which ones. We also smelled burnt smoke and there was actually some smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. I turned the car around which was difficult so I could get the car off the main road and back into the driveway where it was safe. Upon parking the vehicle I could see the rear, driver's side tire was damaged. The tire was not rotating and was locked there was about 20 feet of rubber marks coming out of the driveway into the street and back to the driveway. I called VW immediately and it was brought into service. See attached service report. Looks like the brakes were installed incorrectly at the factory. Imagine driving a car where the brakes lock on you and the tires do not move. Extremely scary. This incident could of been a lot worse. The electric battery could of seized and caused a fire.

The car spontaneously came to a stop in the middle of the road and would not start again. The displayed showed plenty of battery charge/miles of range left, meaning the issue was not a dead battery. There were several error messages, notably one indicating that the car could not be put into drive because it was still connected to a charging cable. Being that the car was in the middle of the road, the car was not connected to a charger. I was unable to put the car into neutral in order to move it to the side of the road and out from the middle of traffic because the car kept indicating that it could not move with a charging cable still attached. The safety of myself and others was put at risk because my car spontaneously stopped in the middle of the road with no warning. My safety was further put at risk because the issue prevented me from putting the car into neutral in order to move it to safety.

The car shut down while driving. Many system warnings appeared sequentially stating that they were no longer functioning. The first to appear and remain as a warning light is the electrical system malfunction. It is currently orange, however, it turned red at one point. My car was unable to go into drive, nor reverse. I had my car serviced just over a month ago for a similar issue - power stopped being delivered to the wheels.

While in reverse if you turn to look back through the window instead of relying on the back-up camera, the car will turn off because there is a sensor on the seat that turns the car off if weight is not distributed correctly. The camera is not always reliable especially in situations with a lot of traffic or tricking maneuvering situations. I have had the car turn off on me at least five times, three of which was when I was in a busy parking lot. If the camera were to fail and I needed to solely rely on looking out the window, having the car turn off, creates a huge safety concern.

I was driving down the interstate and the entirety of the electronic screens froze up. The data presented on the screens was frozen and all the touch buttons froze. With no access to any controls, in a downpour, I was unable to adjust the climate control, turn on the defrosters or have any idea how fast I was going. I proceeded to stop on the interstate, thinking I could shut the car off and restart it to reset the controls, but that did nothing except get me soaked and risk my life being stopped on the side of the highway. This car has a seat activated power on and off so it comes on when you sit down and shuts off when you get up (which is a stupid idea anyway) but upon exiting the car and even locking it with the FOB, the vehicle would not shut off or reset. Soaked, I got back in and continued down the highway with no defrosters or climate control and arrived at my meeting. I was unable to shut the car off so it ran through my lunch then I made the same journey back home, 100+ miles down the interstate with no speedometer, climate control or defrosters. Once I arrived home, I disconnected the battery which did reset the system and displays. I suppose I better carry tools with me to be able to disconnect the battery on the interstate, next time. This is disgusting to me, that VW would not provide some kind of reset option in a very dangerous situation like this. During my event, I called both their âroadside assistanceâ and customer service, WITH NO BLUE TOOTH, and neither of them were able to help me in any way, except tell me to pull over and have it towed.

The windshield of the vehicle is heated. The film that is used causes distortion in the primary field of view. This causes headaches and blurry vision during long drives. I have taken it to the dealership and they informed me that all the ID.4 vehicles that have the heated windshield have the same issue.

At about 11 PM on January 24 I sent a remote command to my vehicle to heat the cabin through the myVW app. The app reported a success like it has many times. When I opened it and sat in the driverâs seat, the two information displays neither displayed anything nor lit up at all. The car appeared to have heated up as expected and was otherwise operational, i.e. I was able to put it in gear, move, and steer as expected. This was tested at low speed and for a short distance since one of the inoperative digital displays, the ID.Cockpit, also provides critical information for driving. This includes the speedometer, remaining range, and the other various functions normally present in the instrument panel. The issue was not resolved by me briefly leaving the vehicle (a tip suggested by many on forums online dedicated to the vehicle), but was after I forced the entertainment system to restart by holding down on the capacitive power button below the main infotainment screen. This was another suggestion I had often seen online. While the fix is simple, the problem is enormous. A less experienced user who hadnât spent hours trawling forums about their car would likely not have known the solution. They would face a decision: abandoning whatever present need they had for the vehicle, or be forced to drive without information like speed and remaining range if driving could not be avoided. P.S. Please let me upload a video on this form. I had to take screenshots of the video I took. Two screenshots show the vehicle in D/drive with the screens blank. The not-screenshots show the infotainment in two states: not working after I briefly left and re-entered the vehicle, and rebooting after I pressed and held the power keys. The previews on here show that theyâre upside down⦠if so, I donât know why.

The heating and cooling controls are not backlit for nighttime use. I have to take my eyes off the road to feel for where the temperature control is located to adjust it. While doing this, it is very dangerous and difficult to do. I have put myself and passengers at risk trying to find the controls. All VW ID4s are not backlit. Dealers are not bound to do any correction since the manufacturer has admitted that it was "and oversight on their part". I just want to make someone aware of this before someone is injured or killed in an accident because of their design flaw or whatever they deem it to be. Please, please, please investigate this before someone is injured. Thank you. The first picture uploaded below on the left shows the location of the touch controls (between the infotainment screen and row of buttons at the bottom lower area). The area with a reflective glare is where the adjustments are for temperature for driver to the left and passenger on the right. The second picture is of the display with normal night time lighting. The five small red/purple dots are inferred sensors for gesture control of the main screen and aren't visible to the human eye. The last picture is of the display without any lights on. This is unacceptable for the build of this vehicle in any price range. Again, please investigate the issue and if possible have something done to correct this. Thank you again.

On long drives (1+ hour or more) my 2023 VW ID.4 Pro S (all electric) displays a "limited driving power" warning at random times, and the speed drops by half or more. This has happened on all long drives (5 separate days) and the car has been serviced by the dealer three times and they cannot find a solution. This is a significant safety risk as it often happens on the highway and I could get rear-ended if I cannot pull off the road in time.

VW ID4 2023 Day two owning ID4, driver's door would not open. I was at the dealership at the time and I was told to make an appointment to fix it. I was also told, it was a thing happening with some new VW ID4 2023. Some sort of short circuit. I went home, did some research, I learned about the recall. I questioned a person on the phone (from dealership) about the notice. They did not answer whether it was safe to drive. On the way to the dealership to fix the door issue, I was involved in a crash. Leaving a red light a car stopped short to avoid a dog. I saw it, hit the brakes all the way down to the floor. ID4 decelerated but did not stop and I braced for impact. I rammed into the car in front of me. I left car at the dealership, I have yet to hear back if it was vehicle malfunction. Timeline: Jan 3: New Car purchased Jan 5: Driver's door would not open from outside. I was told to make an appointment due to limited technicians. I was on site at VW at the time Jan 6: I sent over a text to sales team with a screenshot showing me the recall. No reply from VW Jan 16: On my way to VW for recall, i was involved in a crash.

Drivers door will not open from exterior and occasionally interior. Parts on back order. Serious safety issue. VW America will not give me a loaner therefore making me crawl through my car to get in. Key fob is supposed to open all windows simultaneously however that is also faulty. I feel this car is an absolute death trap. When Iâm reverse, if your body slightly lifts off seat, car comes to a screeching hault. Making it impossible to backup without solely relying on review camera. Many times camera is not sufficient for visual backup.

Our forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic warning systems stopped working on our 2023 ID.4 with 2500 miles on it about 2 weeks ago. Took it to the dealership on 3/3/23 for repairs, after 4 hours the tech came out and was clueless what to what was causing the issue. They requested I leave the vehicle there the rest of the day so a tech from a different location could remote into the vehicle. After another 4-5 hours I was informed they "thought" one of the control modules was defective and needed to be replaced. They say this part has no ETA and would likely take anywhere from several weeks to MANY months to come in. VW does not consider any of these items a "safety issue" and refused to provide a loaner until parts became available.

I have never been in a car accident in my entire life. This was my first ever electric vehicle, and I really loved driving it for the one week I owned it before the brakes failed to stop it. On 03/31 I had to restart the software several times because it froze when i was trying to connect it to Apple Carplay, but it was fine the next day. During the crash, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting a sign and curb. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. Not only did the brakes not work but the the brake assist failed, the collision avoidance system, the steering wheel locked, and the airbags failed to deploy. Both my left side tires became flat. If I would have known how unsafe this was, I would have never selected it in the first place. I chose this vehicle because I thought I would be safe and I wanted to save money on gas. I am so extremely terrified to drive this car and the dealership service center claimed there was nothing wrong with the car.

Vehicle of Issue ID-4 2023 Vin # [XXX] As Reported to VW Customer Support 04/18/2023 The vehicle has a very dangerous problem, being the driver's seat Sensor. The Sensor triggers the Vehicle into park with a slight shift of body weight. This situation was not explained to me by the Dealership Sales Team. This has happened several times. Twice while backing up, as I went to look along side of the driver's door area to check clearance and the car jumped into park. The door was closed and slightly twisted left to view the area. Again as I approached a stop sign, I shifted my self to adjust the seat belt, another time as I was adjusting my pants it went into park. The latest incident caused an Accident. The accident occurred as I was going through a Car Wash. I shifted my weight to get my hand into my pocket to return my credit card and the car jumped into park. That caused the vehicle to jump into park in the middle of the Car Wash resulting in the vehicle behind me to strike my rear tailgate. North Port Police were called and recorded an incident report because it was on private property. The car wash declines responsibility. This is not a good safety feature, it is an unrealistic expectation of the consumer to sit perfectly still while driving. Will this happen at a higher speed???__________ Do all VW Vehicles have the same Seat Sensor (Issues)???__________ I brought the Car In for service 04/17/2023 asking the sensor be checked or for a Software change or an adjustment to the Seat Sensor to be changed to a different weight threshold or HAVE the sensor disabled. Sunset VW of Sarasota would not do any diagnostic without a VW Customer Support approval because an accident was involved. On 04/20/2023 VW Customer Support will not acknowledge or authorize a Investigative Service on this seat sensor issue. They said it was my fault the seat sensor triggers the car to jump into park This is not a normal characteristic for any vehicle. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

I was pulling into a parking structure when the left side of the vehicle (door handles, windows, sensors) lost power. I was able to park the vehicle and then have it towed to the dealership. Although it happened at very low speed, my safety was at risk. It would have been very dangerous if this had happened on the freeway. I was unable to open the door or to close the driver window. The dealer found a blown fuse. They have not been able to identify a cause of what would cause a fuse to blow like this. They continue to work on it (we are on day 3 now) including working with VW of America engineering. The two recalls on this vehicle have been address (approx 10 days ago). I was driving the freeway and suddenly I lost control of the steering wheel for a few seconds. My car suddenly went left & right by itself & I could not control it.

Airbag light is "on" and dealership stated that a driver seat sensor is not working. I assume this turns off the airbags. This puts the occupants at safety risk. This occurred approximately one week after I purchased the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle on April 17th, 2023. I took the vehicle to the dealership for repair and this safety critical part has been on order for 3-months. The dealership has prioritized the part but it is still on back order with no ETA from VW. VW should stop production at the factory and take a factory safety critical part for this vehicle that is under warranty. I contacted VW Customer Care and the dealership multiple times. No escalation has occurred.

I was driving the freeway and suddenly I lost control of the steering wheel for a few seconds. My car suddenly went left & right by itself & I could not control it. I didn't turn on the lane assistance mode. It was terrifying since I drove the freeway all the time & had never happened. This could be very dangerous when the freeway is busy. I would have been hitting another cars. I heard many people reported the same issue.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

1) Brakes: Brakes decelerate and is difficult to stop the vehicle. This is not in all cases when I stop. When I need to do an emergency stop I have to push the brake pedal very hard and pedal pressure feels low. I hope I dont get into and accident when trying to stop. 2) Lane departing warning: The vehicle some times would interpret the street white lines or yellow lanes incorrectly. It would sometime jerk my steering to correct my driving. If a white line stops at an intersection and starts after an intersection it would try and correct my driving. I think this is very dangerous. Should have the option to switch off auto lane correcting and just flash a warning.

TIRES
2 Reports1% of totalPreviewing the first 2 complaint summaries.
The tire is a Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season and the size is: 255/45 R20. While driving on the freeway, I heard weird sound and the tire blowout suddenly causing dangerous movement of the car to the right and left and the car speed decreased quickly to 18 mph with no possibility to increase the speed (looks like this is a safety measure that is taken automatically by the car's computer in such cases). My safety and the safety of others were put at high risk as the cars behind me were moving at relatively high speed as this was at around 5:00 AM. The police came and inspected the tire that was in pieces and he didn't want me to wait for AAA for towing the car as the place it stopped was risky. So, he ordered a towing truck that arrived after around 20 minutes and towed the car to the nearest car's dealer which was close at that time. I left the car and keys. They called me after and the lady said that most probably for a certain reason the air pressure inside the tire became low and the tire blowout due to that. No warning signs or messages appeared prior to the failure.

Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season 255/45 R20 105T After about a month of owning my car, I noticed brown stains on my tires which made them look very old and worn and dirty. I tried washing them off and the stains kept coming back. I emailed the manufacturer and they told me that the browning on the tires was a normal reaction to extreme UV exposure or it could happen over time. I pointed this out to the dealership and they told me it was just dirt. Since this was a brand new car I did not believe the tires should look like this nor have I ever seen tires on a brand new car look this way. After doing a little more research I was convinced the tires were defective. Then in April I ended up getting a screw in one of my tires and it went completely flat and was unrepairable. The tires seemed defective right after I purchased the car and I do not feel like they are safe. The fact that this nail went through the tire when the nail wasn't even sharp indicates to me that the rubber is somehow defective. I've told this to the dealer and the manufacturer and they both tell me that this is normal and tires are supposed to be discolored and it's normal to have the brown stains on them.

On 10 March 2033, our Volkswagen ID.4 caught on fire while charging on a DC fast charger. We charged on a 150kW charger (which was only giving us 20kWh) for 30 mins. We then moved the car to a 350kW charger where someone else was charging (same location) when we first arrived at the station. The fire started shortly after the car began charging at the second charger; the flames were shooting approximately one foot high, out of the charging port. Luckily, my husband was right there and thought/acted quickly; he stopped the charge via the EA touchscreen and removed the charging cable when the fire stopped and it was safe to do so. The lower portion of the (fast-charging) port is now damaged/burned, and a portion of it no longer exists. We attempted several times to contact Electrify America via the number listed on the charging station, but their phone number auto-hung up after certain dial prompts... So we called 911. The police and the fire department arrived soon after we called, and attempted to shut the charging station off. The fire department then (unsuccessfully) attempted to call Electrify America because they were unable to locate emergency disconnects for the charging stations. My husband was eventually able to contact Electrify America, and informed them of the situation. The police placed caution tape over the charger, and told us to head out. Q1: We don't know; VW is doing an investigation to figure this out. Q2:Our car was lit on fire. Q3: I don't know. It's in the process of being investigated, but as far as we've seen online, this is not the first vehicle to start on fire at an Electrify America charging station. Q4: The police and fire department were called to the scene. The fire department has an investigation open on this incident. The VW dealership currently has our vehicle, and told us they were going to be inspecting it as part of their investigation. Q5: No

It seems the computer is not calculating correctly the vehicle performance. After charging the vehicle to 90% (73.8KW) of the 82KW only delivers a portion of what the computer states. at 90% delivers 210 mile; however , the onboard computer states that the performance is 3.2Miles/KW, which should translate to a performance of 236.16 miles (73.8 KW X 3.2Miles /KW = 236 miles Is the data being altered by the vehicle's computer?

I was backing up from a stand still on a parking lot when the car braked extremely hard. There briefly was a message on the center dash with the word emergency on it. The message went away immediately and the car continued to work normal. My neck is still hurting hours later from the very hard brake. During the whole incident there was no other car moving and no person or other object anywhere in the path of the car. I have not yet brought the car to the dealer but will do so next week.

Upon getting the car from the dealership, on second day of driving the car started showing a notification that I need to close my driver door and buckle up when I'd start the car with all doors closed and try to change the gear. The car would stall and show that on behind steering wheel display. Only upon buckling up the car would allow me to put it in Drive or Reverse. The notification would not come on every time. Took it to service and it's been there for a month. They cannot fix the problem. Telling me it has to do with seat belt and airbag sensors. I have been driving a loaner and it doesn't have that issue. Seeing many people describing the same issue in online forums.
