TAKATA RECALL. I CONTACTED VW TODAY AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO REMOVE MY VEHICLE FROM SERVICE AND PROVIDE A RENTAL OR LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL MY CAR IS REPAIRED AND SAFE TO DRIVE. HONDA HAS PROVIDED LOANER VEHICLES. WHAT MAKES VW ANY DIFFERENT. AS OUR PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORT, THIS VW SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO BE REMOVED FROM SERVICE BY THE US GOVERNMENT. THIS CAR IS A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP TO MY FAMILY!!

THE VW SAFETY RECALL 15V483 - SAFETY RECALL 69L2 ON THE CLOCK SPRING- VW DID THEIR "FIX" WHEN I TOOK IT IN 2016, HOWEVER THE STEERING WHEEL CLOCK SPRING WENT BAD (LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHEN BACKING UP- ALSO CONTROLS STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS SUCH AS CRUISE CONTROL) STILL- WHEN I CONTACTED VW SERVICE THEY RAN MY VIN AND STATED THE PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF UNDER THE 2016 RECALL AND IT WOULD ONLY BE FIXED FOR COST. - OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT TAKE CARE OF IT. I TOOK IT INTO A PRIVATE VENDOR OF GERMAN CARS WHO REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING - TOTAL COST $543.98 I FEEL THAT VW NEEDS TO EXPAND THIS RECALL AS THEY DIDN'T DO ENOUGH

2/24/2018

I TOOK MY 2012 VW EOS TO THEM FOR A CLOCK SPRING FAILURE WHICH IS UNDER A RECALL. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY PUT A DUST COVER OVER THE CLOCK SPRING IN 2015. I TOLD THE THAT THERE IS NO WAY THE MECHANIC WHO DID THE WORK COULD GUARANTEE THAT NO DEBRIS GOT INTO THE CLOCK SPRING DURING THE 3 YEARS PRIOR TO THE DUST COVER BEING INSTALLED. I ALSO TOLD THEM THAT THE FEDS OPENED ANOTHER INVESTIGATION IN OCT 2017 FOR VW NOT DOING ENOUGH TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE POORLY DESIGNED PART IN 2015. I TOLD THE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. HE SAID THAT WHEN THE DUST COVER WAS PUT ON THEY NEVER GOT CLOSE TO THE CLOCK SPRING. I TOLD HIM THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO GET CLOSE TO THE CLOCK SPRING BECAUSE DEBRIS HAD ALREADY GOTTEN INTO THE CLOCK SPRING DURING THE 3 YEARS PRIOR TO IT BEING INSTALLED WHICH COMPROMISED THE CLOCK SPRING LEADING TO THE PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE CLOCK SPRING. I DON'T KNOW IF HE UNDERSTOOD WHAT I WAS SAYING OR WAS JUST BLOWING ME OFF.

1ST TIME PULLING UP TO THE AIRPORT PARKING GATE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED, UNABLE TO MOVE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 5 TO 10 MINUTES. 2ND TIME ON THE ONRAMP OF THE HIGHWAY ENTERING TRAFFIC, TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AGAIN. RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. *TR

8/3/2012

HERE IS MY STORY... TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO NEUTRAL STATE WHILE DRIVING. FINALLY FAILED ON 2/2013. MECHATRON UNIT REPLACED. PROBLEM CONTINUED. THEY BLAMED THIRD PARTY REAR VIEW CAMERA WHICH I DEACTIVATED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK IN ON MARCH 12, 2103 AT WHICH TIME THEY REPLACED THE SHIFTER MECHANISM. TOLD ME EVERY THING OK. I KEPT HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES. AFTER CAR GOING INTO NEUTRAL STATE IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC I TOOK CARE BACK IN, AUGUST 27, 2013. THEY TOLD ME THEY FOUND NO FAULTS AND CAR WAS RUNNING ACCORDING TO FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS AND THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. AT WHICH TIME I STARTED CARRYING A VIDEO CAMERA IN THE CAR. IT FAILED A FEW TIMES BUT I WAS NOT ABLE TO RECORD BE CAUSE BY THE TIME I GOT CAMERA READY CAR WENT BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION. ON 1/27/14 IT FAILED LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO RECORD THE EVENT (I HAVE A RECORDING). I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND TRANSMISSION WENT INTO A NEUTRAL STATE. I TOOK IT TO DEAL WHO RAN DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND NO FAULTS. AFTER WATCHING VIDEO SERVICE MANAGER CALLED VW WHO TOLD THEM TO RUN A SOFTWARE UPDATE. I ASKED TO MEET WITH FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME A DATE AS TO WHEN HE IS AVAILABLE. ON 1/31/14 I OPENED CASE # 14008852 WITH VW ADVOCACY GROUP 800-822-8987. THEY HAVE BEEN PRETTY USELESS. AS I EXPLAINED THAT I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING VEHICLE THEY SAID IT WAS REPAIRED, BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE SAFETY. THEY ALSO SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE FACTORY REP, BILL MANSON WILL BE AVAILABLE TO MEET WITH ME. I ASKED FOR A LOANER UNTIL SUCH TIME AND THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER. THEY TOLD ME I HAVE TO PICK UP VEHICLE AND RETURN THE LOANER THAT I CURRENTLY HAVE. I PLAN TO DO THIS TOMORROW BUT HONESTLY I WILL PROBABLY GET RID OF THE VEHICLE ASAP. ANY ADVISE OR RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. *TR

I WAS TRYING TO MERGE ONTO EXPRESSWAY TRAFFIC AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR WAS UNRESPONSIVE. IT CREATED AN UNSAFE SITUATION WHERE I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES AND LET THE TRAFFIC PASS BY, THEN I PUT THE CAR IN MANUAL SHIFT SO THAT I COULD ACCELERATE ENOUGH TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC. THE INABILITY TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO NO RESPONSE FROM THE ENGINE HAPPENS USUALLY AROUND SPEEDS OF 55 TO 65 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE CAR HAS A DELAY THAT TAKES 1 OR 2 SECONDS WHEN GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED AND CAR START SHAKING. THIS RESULTS IN A LOSE OF POWER AND DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO SAFELY MANEUVER THE VEHICLE IN EMERGENCY AND NON-EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.

5/16/2017

12/17/2015

ON MARCH 18, 2016 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND IT BEGAN TO SHAKE AND SHUTTER AS IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE. IT WOULD ALSO NOT ACCELERATE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND CHECK FOR A FLAT. I DID NOT HAVE A FLAT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE FOUR FUEL INJECTORS WAS FAULTY. THEY INFORMED ME THAT VOLKSWAGEN WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH FUEL INJECTORS AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I ASKED THEM TO REPLACE ALL FOUR OF THE FUEL INJECTORS SINCE THEY WERE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEM, BUT THEY WOULD NOT DO SO. THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED ONE OF THE FUEL INJECTORS. I CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE ON MARCH 21, 2016 AND I WAS TOLD THAT VW HAD ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION ON FUEL INJECTORS AND THEY WERE NOW COVERED FOR 10 YEARS/120,000 MILES. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO REPLACE THE THREE ORIGINAL FUEL INJECTORS, SINCE I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY CAR. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT SINCE THEY WERE OPERATING PROPERLY. I POINTED OUT THAT IT WOULD BE SAFER TO BE PROACTIVE AND REPLACE THE THREE ORIGINAL FUEL INJECTORS SINCE THEY WERE INSTALLED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE ONE THAT WAS REPLACED AND COULD VERY WELL FAIL IN THE FUTURE. VW TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO SO. I AM THEREFORE CONTACTING YOU TO SEE IF YOU COULD INTERVENE ON MY BEHALF AND HAVE VW REPLACE THE THREE ORIGINAL FUEL INJECTORS. Broken front coil spring. It is available for inspection Broken spring can dislodge potentially causing a tire rupture and steering issue Also occurred on my other previously owned 2012 VW Eos where both front coil springs broke within 6 mo. of each other. That vehicle had around 60K miles. No No

5/17/2021

The vehicle has 37444 miles on it and the front driver side coil spring was laying broken off partially by the front wheel well when I went to move vehicles around (The vehicle was sitting, not driving when the coil broke, which really is curious). I reported the issue to VW customer care tonight (9/6/22) and they said that it was outside of warranty-Essentially nothing they could do. The complaint number is 05384519, and the rep I spoke with is named Tara. This is not something that should happen with a front coil spring (maybe sagging at 100k+) and seems indicative of bad heat treat. There are other complaints filed with NHTSA regarding this same issue on VWs of the same era. If this had happened while driving, it could’ve caused a catastrophic failure and a pretty significant accident if the tire was hit.

Due to the cold weather I turned on the driver heated seat. I suddenly started feeling it extremely hot, I was wearing a quilted sweater. When I arrived at my work a coworker noticed that my sweater was burned from the back, it had a hole. Then I saw that the seat was burnt due to the extreme heat, the seat melted, it had three small holes and one bigger. I am just concerned that my car could’ve burned while I was driving, due to the malfunction of the heated seats.

1/15/2025

While driving, turned seat heater on, it overheated enough to burn the seat and my coat. No noticeable fire.

Based on the codes and physical condition of the issue apparently many other people have had the same problem. http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00927_-_Terminal_30_(Right) The noticeable thing is the A/C turns off and once the car is turned off you will not be able to lock the doors or turn the car back on.

The most reported complaint category for the 2012 Volkswagen Eos is AIR BAGS, with 63 owner reports. That is about 57% of all complaints logged here. Other recurring themes include AIR BAGS, ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

Are complaints about the 2012 Volkswagen Eos a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 93 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2012 Volkswagen Eos?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict.
