I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70MPH THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS 91 THE AIR IN THE CAR WAS ON SO INSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 70 DEGREES. I HEARD A LOUD POP AND LOOKED BACK AT MY TWO KIDS IN THE BACK THEN AT MY DAUGHTER. GLASS WAS EVERYWHERE. MY SUNROOF JUST IMPLODED. NO TRUCKS WERE PASSING TO THO UP STONES NO OTHER CARS WERE CLOSE ENOUGH TO CAUSE THIS DAMAGE. THERE IS A HUGE HOLE IN THE SUNROOF MIDDLE THE SURROUNDING AREAS ARE SHATTERED AND GLASS IS IN MY SEATS AND COUNCIL AS WELL AS THE CAR FLOOR. I THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT GOING THAT FAST ON THE HIGHWAY! I HAVE CONTACTED MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND THEY STATE THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS AND I THEN GOOGLE IT AND SEE THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW OTHERS WHERE CHANGE IN TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE CAUSE THE GLASS TO IMPLODE. I WILL BE CONTACTING SUBARU TO FILE A CLAIM.

7/18/2015

SUNROOF EXPLODED WHILE I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. I HEARD A LOUD BOOM, LIKE A GUN FIRING, AND THEN GLASS FLYING EVERYWHERE. GLASS WENT IN MY EYES, ON MY HEAD, DOWN MY JACKET, ALL OVER IN THE CAR, AND ALL OVER THE ROOF. THE SUNROOF WAS "BUBBLED" OUTWARDS. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 450 MILES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 SUBARU XV CROSSTREK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH TO MAKE A THREE POINT TURN, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF REVERSE. THE CONTACT CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF REVERSE AFTER A LOT OF MANEUVERING. THE CONTACT PROCEEDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,287.

AT 37,801 MILES, THE BRAKE SWITCH COMPONENT FAILED ON MY 2015 SUBARU XV CROSSTREK. THE HILL ASSIST, ABS, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND SHUT IT OFF, IT REFUSED TO COME OUT OF PARK, LEAVING THE VEHICLE STRANDED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS PART, HOWEVER, THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON I-405 NORTH BOUNT WHEN THE ENGINE FALTERED . I KEPT ACCELERATEING BUT THE CAR LOST SPEED AND MADE A HI RAVING SOUND . I WAS REALLY SCARED AS THE CARS BEHIND HAD TO REDUCE SPEED FAST TO PREVENT REAR ENDING ME . I EXITED THE 405 FREEWAY ON BURBANK - I CONTUNED HOME TO NORTH HOLLYWOOD AT A VERY SLOW SPEED , UNDER 10MPH . WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON . IT WAS A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE . THE NEXT DAY MY HUSBAND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WITH THE SAME DIFFICULTIES .

1/25/2016

ENGINE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING WHILE RUNNING. FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING AND STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WHEN IT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR OTHER WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE THEN IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED WITH NO ISSUE. A WEEK LATER (AFTER NUMEROUS PROBLEM FREE TRIPS), THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 35 TO 40 MPH DOWN THE ROAD. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE. AGAIN IT RESTARTED WITHOUT PROBLEM, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT SPUTTER OR GIVE ANY OTHER INDICATION IT WAS ABOUT TO SHUT OFF. AGAIN, NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH INDICATING A PROBLEM. FOLLOWING BOTH TIMES THE ENGINE CUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING, THE NEXT TIME THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF AND THEN A RESTART WAS ATTEMPTED, THE KEYLESS IGNITION WOULD NOT WORK BUT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE GREEN LIGHT WOULD APPEAR IN THE PUSH START BUTTON AND THE CAR WOULD START. CAR HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR OVER 20 DAYS. THEY HAVE INDICATED THE PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES TO A MECHANIC BUT THEY CANNOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE.

ON 09/07/2016 THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES APPEARED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO WHERE WE PURCHASED IT USED AND THEY ADVISED THEY WILL CONTACT ME. I ALSO STOPPED AT THE LOCAL SUBARU DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF MY CONCERNS. THEY ADVISED IT COULD BE THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH BUT UNSURE WITHOUT RUNNING THE DIAGNOSTICS TEST. THEY ALSO ADVISED ANOTHER CROSSTREK CAME IN WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK. SO FAR I HAVEN'T HAD ANY FURTHER ISSUES BUT I AM CONCERNED MY BRAKES MAY FAIL CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.

AFTER REMOVING CAR FROM GARAGE, WHILE SLOWLY DRIVING UPHILL IN ALLEY (LESS THAN 15 MPH ), CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WHILE MY RIGHT FOOT WAS IN THE AIR ON THE WAY TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN FOR A TURN. THE CAR MOVED & SOUNDED AS IF ACCELERATOR HAD BEEN DEPRESSED, BUT IT WASN'T BY THE DRIVER! I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE, BUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSED CAR TO OVERSHOOT WHERE I WANTED IT TO GO BY SEVERAL FEET. IT DIDN'T COLLIDE WITH ANYTHING. I HEARD A "THUNK" BELOW CAR A COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE THE ACCELERATION. I BROUGHT CAR TO DEALER AT EARLIEST APPOINTMENT - OCT. 11. THEY SUGGESTED IT WAS THE CONTINUOUS VARIABLE TRANSMISSION. I KNEW CAR WELL ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT I EXPERIENCED WAS NOT HOW CVT OPERATES & INSISTED ON SPEAKING TO SUPERVISORS. THEY HELPED ME OPEN AN INVESTIGATION BY SUBARU. I GAVE SUBARU WRITTEN CONSENT TO ACCESS THE CAR'S BLACK BOX. THEIR INSPECTOR (FROM BOSCH AUTOMOTIVE SERVICES) DOWNLOADED BLACK BOX & CAR'S OTHER COMPUTERS, PERFORMED A PHYSICAL INSPECTION & TEST DROVE. HE SAID IT WAS UNLIKELY TO BE CAUSED BY CVT OR THE CRUISE CONTROL, & FOUND NO DAMAGE UNDER CAR. ON 11/10/16, I GOT E-MAIL FROM SUBARU THAT NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND, NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES WERE STORED, & "THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED." I CALLED THE SIGNER, WHO STATED THE "IMPACT OF THE ACCELERATION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO STORE." SHE REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME COPIES OF THE COMPUTER PRINTOUTS OR ANY OTHER DOCS FROM INVESTIGATION, CLAIMING THEY ARE PROPRIETARY TO SUBARU, EVEN THOUGH THE DATA, AS PART OF CAR, BELONGS TO ME! WHILE CAR WAS OUT OF SERVICE OVER 30 DAYS, LEMONLAW DIDN'T TAKE CASE AS NO DEFECT WAS FOUND. I UNDERSTAND INTERMITTENT ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL PROBLEMS DON'T LEAVE DTC CODES. DON'T KNOW IF I CAN TRUST THIS CAR, AS MALFUNCTION'S CAUSE WAS NEVER FOUND. NHTSA SHOULD ISSUE REGS ON ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SAFETY AS OWNERS CAN'T SUE!

JANUARY 1ST 2016 DRIVING BACK TO MIAMI FROM NORTH CAROLINA ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE AND NEAR KENDALL/MIAMI AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL ON, NO RED LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD, AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A CONSTRUCTION AREA AT NIGHT, IN THE POURING RAIN STOCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. FORTUNATELY A PASSING BY STATE FARM ROAD ASSISTANCE TRUCK SAW ME AND CAME TO MY AID PUSHING ME TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER HOUR AND MANY ATTEMPTS THE ENGINE STARTED AND I CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT A PROBLEM. AUGUST 7TH 2016 DRIVING BACK TO MIAMI FROM NORTH CAROLINA ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE JUST SOUTH OF JUPITER FLORIDA AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN; WHILE ON THE LEFT LANE THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING, ENGINE STILL ON, NO RED LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD AND SECONDS LATER ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE TO THE RIGHT SIDE AND AFTER DOZENS OF ATTEMPTS AND AN HOUR AND 15 MINUTES THE ENGINE STARTED AND I CONTINUED DRIVING WITHOUT A PROBLEM. BOTH INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED AFTER THE VEHICLES HAS BEEN DRIVING 10 PLUS HOURS. I TRAVEL TO NORTH CAROLINA BY MYSELF OFTEN AND THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY SO FAR THAT NO ONE HAS REAR ENDED ME YET BUT CAN'T GUARANTEE I WILL BE SO LUCKY NEXT TIME DRIVING AMONG 18 WHEELERS AT HIGH SPEEDS ON THE FL TURNPIKE AND I-75. I TOOK THE 1ST INCIDENT AS A ONETIME THING BUT OBVIOUSLY IT IS NOT; THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT SUBARU OF PEMBROKE PINES FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG.

8/15/2016

I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON HIGHLAND AVENUE, JUST AFTER 7 AM, THURSDAY, JULY 11, WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION, THE RPMS WENT LOW, AND THE VEHICLE DIED. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATIONS OF A PROBLEM BEFORE THE EVENT. THIS LEFT ME STRANDED BETWEEN 35TH AND 31ST STREET DURING THE BUSY RUSH HOUR PERIOD. UNABLE TO RESTART. TOW INTO THE DEALER. FUEL PUMP FAILURE WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE. THIS WAS ALARMING FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT BECAUSE WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE STOPPED OPERATING, LEAVING ME STUCK IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC HAVING TO SIGNAL APPROACHING DRIVERS TO AVOID MY STALLED CAR. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF THE EVENT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WHAT'S MORE, WITH A LITTLE OVER 63000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE PUMP FAILURE OCCURRED LONG BEFORE THE VEHICLES EXPECTED OPERATIONAL LIFE. I VIEW THIS PUMP FAILURE INCIDENT AS A SERIOUS SUBARU PRODUCT MANUFACTURING DEFECT CAPABLE OF ENDANGERING THE LIVES OF DRIVERS, PASSENGERS AND FELLOW TRAVELERS ON OUR STREETS AND HIGHWAYS.

REVERSE LIGHTS AND REAR VIEW CAMERA WILL NOT TURN OFF. THEY STAY ON IN DRIVE, NEUTRAL, PARK AND THE MANUAL MODE. I'VE BEEN TO THE SUBARU DEALER AND ANOTHER MECHANIC AND THEY CANNOT RESOLVE WITHOUT MAJOR LABOR HOURS TO LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. CARS BEHIND ME WILL BELIEVE I AM REVERSING INTO THEM SINCE THE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ON (THEY MAY DECIDE TO TAKE UNNECESSARY EVASIVE ACTION). THIS IS ALSO BLINDS DRIVERS WHO ARE BEHIND ME AS THE BRIGHT REVERSE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ON. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. THIS IS NOT SAFE. THIS HAPPENS IN MOTION, IN PARK, ETC. I'VE DONE NO MODIFICATIONS TO THIS CAR AND THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN JUMP STARTED. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO UPLOAD VIDEOS OF THIS INCIDENT OCCURRING AS I HAVE MANY. WITH THE REVERSE CAMERA STAYING ON THE CAR'S INFOTAINMENT CENTER IS RENDERED USELESS. THIS IS ALSO EXTREMELY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING AS YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH A CONSTANT VIDEO FEED OF WHAT'S BEHIND YOU.

WHEN I GO TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE KEY IT LOCKS HALF WAY AND WON'T COME OUT. HAVE TO REVERSE AND PULL FORWARD SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL TURN COMPLETELY OFF. SUBARU HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE DATE: 03/15/18 16-112-18R REVISED BULLETIN ABOUT AN ISSUE WITH THE "SHIFT SELECTER MECHANISM." SUBARU IS AWARE OF THE PERSISTENT PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL.

10/5/2020

The steering wheel goes to the left so if you take your hands off the wheel for one second it just totally goes to the left. I’m afraid I might get into an accident I’m having it looked at by a Subaru dealer in tomorrow which is February 14th. It’s been doing this for about a year. It didn’t start out as bad as it is now and there were no warning lights that came on. I read on the Internet many other people with the same make & model but the year varies of 2015 cross treks have had this problem and there has been no recalls. I did get a recall in the mail, but it’s a recall that is optional that the power steering box could crack.

At approximately 67,300 miles, while performing routine maintenance, my mechanic discovered that my front wheel bearing set needed replacing. Soon after that, I heard a noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. At first, my mechanic couldn't diagnose the problem. When the noise got louder, I returned to my mechanic, and he discovered that the wheel bearings in both of my rear wheels needed replacing. The vehicle had 81,565 miles at the time he replaced them. With some internet research, I found that many Subaru owners with the same vehicle had experienced the same problem. I also found a bulletin from Subaru describing a faulty rear wheel backing plate (Bulletin # 05-70-19). If Subaru had notified me of the defect, I could have had it promptly replaced. Instead, they risked my safety, as a wheel could have stopped while I was driving. I chose not to take it to the dealer, because it is a 1.5 hour drive from my home, on a remote highway. Diagnosis and repair would have been separate appointments, 2 weeks apart, and the dealer told me the chance of reimbursement was 50%. This vehicle is available for inspection.

7/16/2021

Right rear wheel bearing failure at around 71,000 miles. Loud, humm occurs around at around 35 mph and above.

I bought in 2019 4 brand new car tires (Continental TureContact 225/55 R17) at Discount Tires still have receipt. Tires are maintained on a regular bases (rotation and alignment check). I noticed a vibration in my steering wheel and ask my garage to check alignment. He stated alignment is good but he saw on the 2 front tires that there is belt separation. In all my life I never had this happen before. I was told by my garage that looks like a manufacturing problem. This is dangerous and needs to be addressed and Continental needs to be held accountable for this. I went back where I bought the tires with my receipt and told them they need to check all 4 tires for this defect. For right now I cannot drive the car until Discount Tires takes a look at it. These tires have an 80,000 Miles warranty. If I wouldn't been so attentive to my car and tires I and its mechanical, I never would have known, that I am driving my car with unsafe manufactured tires. One question: How difficult is it to manufacture good and SAFE products? DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!

Tire pressure light came on and won't turn off. Front end shakes when braking dealer said it was new brakes, but still happening. Front passenger seat belt locked and will not release, no one can sit in front seat.
