Static 2017 manufacturer ranking based on average eligible vehicle reliability scores. It ranks 13 manufacturers using data from 246 eligible vehicles, giving you a starting point for a lower-risk shortlist—not a verdict on every individual car.

Include only model-years with enough reliability data to compute a score. Use severity-weighted recalls, exposure-adjusted complaints, TSB volume, and supported major-issue assessments where available. Safety is a separate overall-score component. Calculate each model-year score with Carfocal's existing 1.0 to 10.0 reliability formula. Rank manufacturers by the average score across all eligible model-years in the dataset. This yearly report filters the aggregation to 2017 vehicles before manufacturer ranking. Validate the exact model year, VIN, service history, and inspection before buying.
