LESS THAN 2 MONTHS INTO A BRAND NEW VEHICLE, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED DURING A RAINSTORM ON THE HIGHWAY ALONG THE LINE OF THE WIPERS. NOTHING HIT THE WINDSHIELD OTHER THAN RAIN. THE DEALER IS MAKING US PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR RECALIBRATION AND TINTING, DESPITE THE FACT WE HAVE INSURANCE. SAFELITE IS REPLACING THE WINDSHIELD. IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO GET THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO, THE STEERING MOTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS.

9/22/2019

WHILE IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY A VERY SMALL FOREIGN OBJECT HIT THE LOWER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. THE SOUND OF THE HIT WAS BARELY AUDIBLE SO THE OBJECT HAD TO BE VERY SMALL. I DON'T SEE HOW SUCH A SMALL OBJECT COULD BREAK A WINDSHIELD ON A 2 WEEK OLD VEHICLE

WHILE DRIVING OVER APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, WIND NOISE FROM DRIVER'S DOOR.

11/13/2019

THERE ARE TWO COMPLAINTS... 1. WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, A CRACK DEVELOPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD, JUST BELOW THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR MOUNT. PER THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDATION WE WENT TO SAFELITE FOR AN OPINION ABOUT THE CAUSE, SINCE WE HAD NO MEMORY OF ANYTHING HITTING THE WINDSHIELD, AND THE SAFELITE MANAGER PROVIDED A WRITTEN OPINION (VIA EMAIL) THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF IMPACT, AND IT WAS HIS OPINION THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE GLASS. HYUNDAI CORPORATE STATED THAT SINCE WE COULD NOT PROVE A DEFECT EXISTED, IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. 2. SIMILAR TO SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS, THERE IS A LOUD VIBRATION THAT EMINATES FROM THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW/DOOR WHENEVER THE VEHICLE REACHES 50MPH OR HIGHER. USUALLY A DECREASE IN SPEED MITIGATES THE NOISE, BUT IF CAN BE RATHER DEAFENING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.

WE PURCHASED OUR 2020 HYUNDAI PALISADE LIMITED SIX WEEKS AGO. CURRENTLY HAS 3000 MILES. THE BLIND SPOT COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM (BSCW) HAS A MALFUNCTION AND STOPS WORKING AFTER DRIVING A FEW MILES ON BOTH HIGHWAY AND CITY/COUNTRY ROADS. THERE ARE NO CARS OR TREES/OBSTACLES AROUND THE CAR WHEN IT DEACTIVATES. RESTARTING THE CAR RESETS THE BSCW SYSTEM, BUT IT MALFUNCTIONS AGAIN IN A FEW MILES. WHEN THE SYSTEM IS DEACTIVATED, WE CANNOT TURN OFF BLIND SPOT ACTIVE ASSIST--IT GIVES A CONTROLLER ERROR. WE TRIED SHUTTING OFF THE BSCW SYSTEM INDICATOR IN THE HEADS-UP DISPLAY. THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM

12/23/2019

1) FIRST ISSUE WAS A CRACKED WINDSHIELD WITHIN THE FIRST 500 MILES. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, NO FOREIGN OBJECT, SUDDENLY A CRACK STARTED TO FORM. 2) SECOND ISSUE IS A BLIND SPOT WARNING SYSTEM ALERT WHEN NO CARS ARE PRESENT. 3) THIRD ISSUE IS AUTOMATIC WIPER THAT SUDDENLY COME ON WHEN NO RAIN OR DEBRIS ARE PRESENT. 4) FOURTH ISSUE, BUT FAR FROM THE LAST, IS THE ONGOING WIND NOISE PROBLEM THAT HYUNDAI CAN’T SEEM TO SOLVE. IT IS SO LOUD ON THE HIGHWAY THAT THE DRONE IS LOUDER THAN THE RADIO. I’VE MEASURED THIS AS HIGH AS 86DB.

'CHECK BLIND SPOT COLLISON WARNING SYSTEM' ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS EVERY TRIP AFTER 10-15 MINUTES. MY PALISADE ALSO STEERS TOWARD THE CENTER LANE AND DOES NOT STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE AS INTENDED. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE BEING SO CLOSE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND IT CAUSES ARM FATIGUE TO KEEP STEERING AWAY FROM THE CENTER. FINALLY, THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF WIND NOISE COMING THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW/DOOR AS I DRIVE AT MEDIUM TO HIGH SPEEDS.

I BOUGHT THE CAR IN JAN 2020, AND FOUND THAT IT WAS LEAKING OIL ON JUNE 2020, AFTER 4500 MILES. THE OIL LEAK LOOKS TO BE SIGNIFICANT AS I HAD FOUND DROPS AND PUDDLES ON MY GARAGE FLOOR. THE OIL LEAK SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE CONNECTION AREA, OR POSSIBLY THE UPPER OIL PAN. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY STILL IN DEALER SERVICE FOR REPAIR. *TR

VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 64/65MPH AND UP. NOT SURE IF DRIVESHAFT OR TRANSMISSION. HYUNDAI HAS ISSUED A TSB BUT WILL NOT HONOR IT. I HAVE ASKED 2X FOR DEALER SERVICE DEPT. TO EVALUATE THIS PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE TO HONOR THIS TSB. I HAVE SEEN ON FORUMS OTHERS ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM WITH CARS MADE IN DECEMBER 2019. IT IS PAINFUL TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS THE DRIVESHAFT, WILL IT BREAK? WILL THE TRANSMISSION FAIL? THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR PURCHASED NEW AND IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I CANNOT GET HYUNDAI TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE SENT EMAILS SAYING TOUGH LUCK. I PURCHASED A NEW 2020 HYUNDAI PALISADE SEL FROM QUIRK HYUNDAI IN BANGOR MAINE ON 3/06/2020, UPON GETTING IT HOME AND USING IT WITH MY CHILDREN, WE DISCOVERED THAT THE WALK THROUGH SHOULDER BUTTON, IF PRESSED, WILL STILL CAUSE THE SEAT TO FOLD AND SLIDE FORWARD EVEN WITH A PASSENGER, AND IF THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THIS FUNCTION IS STILL ENABLED. I HAD MY 8 YEAR OLD TRIPLETS IN THE VEHICLE ON 3/07/2020, AND WE WERE DRIVING IN TOWN TO THE LOCAL RESTAURANT. CHILDREN, BEING INQUISITIVE, WERE INSPECTING EVERY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE WITHIN THEIR REACH. ONE PRESSED THE BUTTON AND WE HEARD THE ELECTRONIC RELEASE, UNSURE OF WHAT THE SOUND WAS AT THE TIME, I DID AN INSPECTION LATER AND REALIZED IT WAS THE WALK THROUGH LATCH. I THEN RAN A FEW CIRCUMSTANTIAL EXPERIMENTS WITH MY ADULT SON TO TEST MY CONCERN THAT THIS FEATURE MIGHT CAUSE HARM IF ACTIVATED AT THE WRONG TIME. MY CONCERNS WERE CONFIRMED WITH THIS TEST. MY ADULT SON IN THE SEAT, PRESSED THE BUTTON WHILE I WAS DRIVING 5 MILES PER HOUR, AND THEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. IN ONCE INSTANCE, HIS SEAT WENT FULL FORWARD AND HE WAS FORCEFULLY PROJECTED INTO THE SEAT IN FRONT OF HIM . I WAS ABLE TO DOCUMENT THIS AND HAVE FORWARDED THE VIDEO TO HYUNDAI USA, IT IS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING ON YOUTUBE ONLY THROUGH THE LINK AT HTTPS://YOUTU.BE/A4-MSQZB-74.

PURCHASED VEHICLE AND WHEN WE DROVE IT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (64-75) THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION WITH LOW FREQUENCY RUMBLING (SOUNDED AS THOUGH DRIVING ON RUMBLE STRIP). IF WE DROVE ABOVE 75 THE VIBRATION WOULD LESSEN. WE BROUGHT IN INTO THE DEALER AND ON THE FIRST VISIT THEY FIRST BALANCED TIRES, NO CHANGE NOTICED ALTHOUGH THEY GAVE US THE VEHICLE BACK. SECOND VISIT THEY REPLACED REAR TIRES AND FORCE BALANCED ALL TIRES, NO CHANGE. THEN THEY REPLACED FRONT TIRES AND REPLACED THE REAR DRIVE SHAFT AFTER HAVING TOLD US TWO WEEKS PRIOR THAT THEY HAD MEASURED THE FIRST ONE AND IT WAS WITHIN HYUNDAI SPECS. THE REPLACING OF THE DRIVE SHAFT IMPROVED THE LOW FREQUENCY VIBRATION BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY ELIMINATE IT. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM HYUNDAI CORPORATE FOR A BUY BACK.

8/18/2019

My tire was losing air so we took it to a local tire shop to be repaired thinking it had a nail in it or something. Turns out it was losing air because the wheel was cracked and slightly bent. The only 2 people who drive this car are my husband and I and neither of us could recall hitting or running over anything. The Hyundai dealer refused to submit a warranty claim (car had 16,200 miles on it), so we called Hyundai corporate and they submitted a warranty claim that would be assigned to a case manager and they would get back to us. That was 5/24 and by 6/15 we still hadn't heard anything back from them in spite of calling 3 more times to check the status of the case. I believe either this particular wheel was defective or the engineering design of the wheel is wrong. We still have the wheel for inspection. No warning lights other than the low tire pressure warning came on. The dealer inspected the wheel twice and Les Schwab (tire place) inspected it twice and installed a used ("take-off") wheel for us yesterday. The tire had no damage and there was no damage of any kind anywhere on my car, so I find it hard to believe that we could have hit something so hard to crack the wheel but had no other damage and couldn't remember any such event. The crack is over 1 inch long and absolutely could have caused a blowout or accident, so we weren't able to use the car much for a month except right around our home.

WINDSHIELD WILL CRACK WHEN BARELY HIT WITH ROCKS ON ROAD. I'VE HAD VEHICLE LESS THAN 10 MONTHS AND 1ST CRACK HAPPENED 3WEEKS AFTER I GOT VEHICLE. AFTER 2 ND CRACK, 1 MONTH LATER, I TRIED TO GET IT FILLED BUT IT STARTED TO RUN SO HE HAD TO STOP. SINCE THEN, I'VE GOTTEN 2 MORE CHIPS. THE PLACE I TRIED TO HAVE FILLED HAS NOW RAN COMPLETELY ACROSS THE CENTER OF MY SHIELD, ABOUT 2 FEET!!!! I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE ENTIRE SHIELD. I'VE HAD 2 GLASS REPAIR SHOPS SAY THEY WON'T TOUCH PALISADE SHIELDS BC THE GLASS RUNS AND BREAKS EASILY. I BELIEVE IT TO BE DEFECTIVE!!!!! I'VE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A SHIELD IN 30 YEARS OF DRIVING AND HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE CRACK THIS EASILY. SOMETHING IS WRONG. *TR

THE SECOND TIME THE EMERGENCY AUTOMATED BRAKING ENGAGED I WAS ON I-70 NEAR SPFLD. OHIO. TRAFFIC WAS MOVING FAST 65-70 MPH, I WAS IN LEFT LANE, HAD A NEARER WALL TO MY LEFT, SEMI TO RIGHT, PASSENGER CAR TO THE FRONT AND SEMI TO MY REAR, THE WEATHER WAS SUNNY OVERALL BEAUTIFUL DAY. WHEN IT ENGAGED ONCE AGAIN ABRUPTLY BRAKED (SAME ALARMS ENGAGED). THIS TIME WITH THE SEMI TO MY REAR IT SCARED ME SO BAD I FELT AS IF I WAS GOING TO GET RAN OVER BY THE SEMI. I approached the intersection slowly and stopped completely to turn right. There were a couple of vehicles in front of mine. I pushed the 'Auto Hold' button while waiting on the Red light. A second later, I felt the car moving on its own and stepped on the brakes. The car did not stop and went forward and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. My vehicle did not stop after the initial collision and accelerated more on its own and went forward. I pushed the 'Park' button to stop the car but it did not work and the vehicle kept moving forward fast and hit another car. It still kept moving fast until it hit other things. The car stopped after it went through a wire fence and hit a tree. The brake did not work at all. The car never stopped once it started moving on its own. Forward collision warning never came when it was approaching the first vehicle in front of mine on its own. The 'check engine' light was on for 3 days and disappeared on its own about 1 month prior to the accident. I tried to take it to the service center immediately but the earliest appointment I could get was in June. The service adviser at Hyundai service said there was nothing that they can do since the warning light was not on when we asked for a service check on 6/11/22.

TWO ISSUES: 1. WARNING INDICATOR COMES ON ALONG WITH A WARNING THAT READS "CHECK BLIND-SPOT COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM." THESE WARNING COME ON AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, AND COME ON EVEN WHEN NO OTHER VEHICLES ARE AROUND OR IN BLIND-SPOT. SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY SENSOR. AT TIME OF WRITING THIS, VEHICLE ONLY HAS ABOUT 500 (FIVE HUNDRED) MILES. 2. LOUD WHISTLE/WIND NOISE FROM COMING IN FROM DRIVER SIDE DOOR. OCCURS WHEN TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50+ MPH. SEEMS LIKE THE DOOR IS NOT SEALED PROPERLY, EVEN THOUGH IT IS SHUT ALL THE WAY. LOUD NOISE COULD CAUSE DRIVER TO BE UNABLE TO HEAR EMERGENCY SIRENS, WHICH COULD BE FATAL OR CAUSE TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS. WITH BOTH ISSUES THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, ON CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAY. THE WARNING INDICATOR WITH THE BLIND SPOT WARNING WILL EVEN STAY ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PULLED INTO A LOT, COMES TO A STOP, PLACED IN PARK, AND WITH NO ONE AROUND.

Car was purchased new in May of 2020 and all systems worked as expected. After approx 3 months and 2000 miles the rear backup camera began to pixilate and then failed resulting in a blue screen. Went to a different dealer and they advised replacement of the camera. Returned vehicle to another dealer and they replaced the camera and it worked for about a month then pixilated and failed again. Took the car to a different dealer who checked the connections and cable and advised that the camera needed replacement again. This will be 4 Hyundai dealers that have looked at the car and camera now has a blue screen.

While on highway or driving over 30MPH, there begins a whistling noise that can get pretty loud on the highway. It seems as though the seal of the door is not properly molded around the door allowing the wind to get in and create a very annoying noise while driving.

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the tires were making a grinding sound. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to several dealers. The first dealer diagnosed the failure with tire cupping. The second dealer diagnosed the failure and determined that the rear wheel bearings needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 16,000. This car has become a dangerous noisy vehicle in the rain (due to tire cupping) and a real noisy vehicle during non-rainy operating days. The contact has stated that although the vehicle has a lifetime alignment, the issue still persisted and they no longer have the vehicle.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

The contact owns a 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated that while his wife was stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled without warning. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle experienced rough driving. The contact later discovered that the engine oil level was extremely low. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer performed an oil consumption test, an engine leak down, engine compression test, and carbon cleaning on the engine; however, the vehicle continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 13,700.

FAQ

What are the most common owner complaints for the 2020 Hyundai Palisade?

The most reported complaint category for the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is VISIBILITY/WIPER, with 114 owner reports. That is about 20% of all complaints logged here. Other recurring themes include VISIBILITY/WIPER, ENGINE, UNKNOWN OR OTHER.

Are complaints about the 2020 Hyundai Palisade a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 222 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2020 Hyundai Palisade?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict. Start with the top complaint categories, compare those themes against the recall report and maintenance guide, then inspect service records for evidence that the same problem areas were already addressed. If the same issue appears repeatedly across complaints and recalls, treat it as a real ownership-risk flag.

Are complaints about the 2020 Hyundai Palisade severe?

222 complaint reports involve higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components, which is enough to justify a focused inspection before purchase.

Complaint list entries are sourced from owner-submitted NHTSA ODI records.
