I noticed a clicking noise coming from the right front wheel when turning left. I also notice when I put the vehicle into drive I hear a clicking sound. I was driving came to a stop and heard a click sound when I took off. I would guess it's the actual drive shaft that is bad.

The hands-free power lift gate was inadvertently activated while I was placing items into the back of the vehicle, and hit me in the back, and the back of my head. This happened three times. The dealer told me that Ford relocated the foot sensor farther towards the back of the vehicle following consumer complaints that it was too hard to active with your foot, as you had to extend your foot too far under the vehicle. This has now caused the lift gate to descend while you are loading/unloading cargo, without you intentionally activating it. This can pose an injury danger when the lift gate hits your back and/or head suddenly. The dealer deactivate the sensor for me, but Ford would not pay to have this done. The dealer did not charge me, and considered it a courtesy. This is an engineering fault that should be corrected by Ford before unsuspecting users are injured when the lift gate suddenly, and unexpectedly, closed down on them. I found Ford's attitude towards the dealer was arrogant. Apparently they are unconcerned about user injury.

The Ford Edge Sync 4A system has a random system lockup and reboot issue since delivery. The vehicle has been examined by the leasing dealer's service department and they were unable to resolve the concern. The service tech writes in the service report "The Ford is investigating software issue with Sync 4 in Edges". In multiple communications with Ford Customer Support dept and the leasing dealer service manager, the issue is known, but THERE IS NO RESOLUTION PLAN ISSUED BY FORD. The issue has existed since vehicle delivery. The effect of this issue is that all functions of the Sync system are disabled for minutes while the system locks up (the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive) and the system reboots. Phone calls are terminated, the backup camera is disabled, and driver attention is diverted while trying to determine what is going on with the Sync system and the aforementioned functional issues.

6/13/2022

The car was in a front end collision; the airbags did not deploy. Insurance said the car was reparable and fixed it; car was picked up from body shop on 07/19/2024. In May 2025, at only 3 years old, the transmission went out at 95,000 miles and was just replaced. Ford would not admit the accident had anything to do with the transmission going out on a 3 year old car. I was quoted almost $10,000 to replace it, but Ford "helped" and paid $4000 and I was left with the balance of $6200.

The faulty back door lift and/or sensor resulted in the back door closing without activating the close button and it hit me in the head and shoulders several times while I put groceries in and/or removing them from the back area. I was unable to activate the foot sensor to open or close the back door when I purposely tried to open the back door using the foot sensor. After bringing the vehicle to the dealer for an oil change and informing them that this occurred 3 months after purchase, they informed me they did not have time to look at it and I had to make a different appointment. Also they stated they did not have any other concerns or complaints involving the back door closing without activating the close button. We live 4 hours away from the dealer and when I made the appointment to have it checked, that morning before leaving home, my husband went to help me pack afew items in the back and the door slammed so hard and hit him in the head causing a small laceration, headache and neck discomfort. At that point, the door did not stay open at all and slammed closed hard, with all the weight of the door. The dealer did not have the part and told me to be careful until fixed. I am afraid to use the back area now because it is hard for me to hold the door open to use the back. The door slams with such strong force that it could cause great bodily injury if you were caught there when the door slammed shut. The part was ordered the same day on 10/14/22 and I did not get an appointment until 11/2/22 to get it fixed. A great SAFETY concern especially if one had small children and this happened.

10/25/2022

Unintended Hands-Free Liftgate Activation: When standing next to or loading items into the rear cargo area the lift gate will begin to close on its own. On two occassions I have been hit on the head and also on my shoulder. No injuries were incurred. This is a random occurance. The issue has been reported to the Ford delership, McDonald Ford in Freeland MI, on several occasions. The most recent being April 13, 2023. The service advisor presented me with a Ford bulletin, SSM 51360, which states "This is a normal condition and repairs are not necessary." I feel that this is a safety issue, especially for seniors who may not be able to react as quickly as I did in order to avoid injury.

I'm getting warning lights on the dash that indicated that ABS, traction control, cruise control and collision mitigation are inoperable. The dealership service dept. had the vehicle for over 2 weeks trying to diagnose the problem in conjunction with Ford engineers. they finally determined the the issue was a bad ABS module. They then informed me that the needed parts were not available and it might take 2weeks, 2months or longer to get. This condition has existed since the day the car was delivered. As of now, the car has about 600 miles on it. We're reluctant to drive the car because we feel the vehicle is unsafe, particularly in winter road conditions. We are at a loss as to how to proceed and are hoping you cab help us resolve this problem. Took 2 attempts to restart car and had to rev the engine to move from blocking intersection.

The day after purchasing my new 2022 Ford Edge, I was driving from the grocery store when I noticed a clacking sound. I stopped the car and looked around and under the car. It appeared that a metal band that held up a tank was dragging on the ground. I drove half a mile to my home and called my car dealer. He instructed me to drive the car to the Ford service department, about 5 miles away. I am presently waiting to receive a report from the service department.I am concerned that this is an example of a quality control failure and that it was an unreasonable safety risk to drag a gas tank full of fuel on the road.

Bought this vehicle from Bayou Ford in LaPlace, LA around 2 months ago. The back up camera stopped working correctly after first month. Paid to have reset at Ford dealer in Slidell, they said wasn't on recall. It's got squiggly lines when selecting reverse on shifter, unable to view behind me. This is dangerous as it's a large vehicle and I fear running over something or into another vehicle out of view. This is the exact problem as the recall indicates. The Slidell dealer said it would be over 1K to replace a camera and I don't have it after just buying thr vehicle. This should not be happening with a 2 year old vehicle. Can someone please help me? The backup camera isn't working properly; it's very dim and glitchy. This was a known and recalled issue for 2021 - 2022 Ford Edges, but because of my VIN number, they won't fix it without charging me. If I'm having the same issue as the other recalled ones, why won't you service mine?

The Yakima roof rack system (base clips, towers and bars) were attached to the roof of my husband's new 2022 Ford Edge. Our Thule Hullavators and 2 eddyline kayaks were also on the roof rack. It was all secure and properly installed. After 90 min heading north on I75 the front passenger clip failed sending the entire roof rack flying. We pulled over immediately and one kayak landed, still attached to the bars, in the left 2 lanes of the highway while the 2nd kayak landed in the middle of the highway, close to the right 2 lanes. We ran out into the freeway to get the kayak out of the road and are very lucky that no one hit it, was hit by it or hit us in the process! One of our kayaks is a complete loss, the roof rack system, including the Thule Hullavators are also a total loss and there is damage to the roof of the car as well. We are working with State Farm to repair the car There was zero warning this would or could happen though afterwards we have been able to find complaints on the Better Business Bureau regarding this exact thing happening to other people! Needless to say we are very upset and saddened by the loss of our property. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated as clearly there are others who have been harmed in this way by Yakima's product. More pictures are available if needed.

I have had the liftgate lower unexpectedly in two separate incidents causing injury. The first happed two weeks ago at a filling station. I was exited the passenger side and walked behind the car to reach the pump. When I got to the pump I turned around to go back to get my wallet. At that moment I struck the liftgate and it cut my head because it had opened without warning and I turned directly into it. (I am 6'2" tall). The second time was today. I was putting groceries into the car and I turned to get more groceries from the cart. As I turned back towards the car, the liftgate was lowering without warning and clobbered me in the head again. I have a picture from today. While these are the only two occurrences that I was injured, there have been others where I was able to quickly catch the tailgate as it tried to close while I was standing there. In all of these cases I do not have my foot near the sensor. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow to make an appointment. This is very dangerous particularly for taller people. When the gate closes there is a faint sound coming from the front of the car but it is hard to hear when you are in a parking lot. This has been going on since purchase, but this month is the first time I was injured.

I got the Edge in 02/18/23 purchased brand. I noticed that the drivers seat is loose. I actual took into the dealer where it was purchased and I was told it would take 3 months to look at it. Needless to say I didn't leave the vehicle. I also notice that body trim was coming off and I filed a claim with Ford but I was told a dealer would have to send pictures and they would decide if they would cover it under warranty. The lane keep assist or Ford Co-pliot will over compensate and if not careful will cause a crash.

The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle was significantly close to the vehicle in front of him; however, the Forward Collision Avoidance system failed to engage. A message indicating that the Forward Collision Avoidance sensors had failed was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the detachment of the bracket attached to the front bumper. The vehicle was not repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that the Adaptive Cruise Control mode was inoperable while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who made the same assessment and charged a repair fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the failure might have been caused by a frontal collision; however, the contact stated that the front of the vehicle did not show signs of a front impact collision. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

SEAT BELTS

This vehicle was purchased new during April of 2023. Since the date of purchase it has been and continues to be impossible for a heavyset person to fasten the seatbelt while seated in the right rear seat. This is due to the following facts. The seat belt buckle at that location ONLY is physically different than all the other buckles in the rest of the vehicle. This renders a standard Edge seatbelt extension unusable at that location ONLY. While a part number exists for this unique, single location application seat belt extension, THE PART ITSELF DOES NOT ACTUALLY EXIST. Despite having been on "backorder" for nearly one year now, Ford is evidently refusing to manufacture and/or supply this vital safety appliance. Accordingly, the fact remains that, each and every time our heavyset family member rides in the right rear seat of this otherwise wonderful vehicle, THEIR LIFE IS POTENTIALLY AT RISK! I checked with the parts department at Riverview Ford in Oswego, IL yesterday and was told that "the part is still on backorder with no ETA." Your help is respectfully requested in resolving this crucial safety issue. Sincerely yours, [XXX] , [XXX] , [XXX] Cellular (Text and Voice), [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Are complaints about the 2022 Ford Edge a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 27 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2022 Ford Edge?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict. Start with the top complaint categories, compare those themes against the recall report and maintenance guide, then inspect service records for evidence that the same problem areas were already addressed.
