While driving, I heard a ticking noise, that sounded like rocks being thrown in the fender well. The more I drove, the sound and frequency increased. Then, I started to lose power, like it was taking longer to shift. My safety and others were at risk because continuing to drive with lifter issues could’ve caused engine failure, which could’ve caused an accident. The problem was confirmed at a dealership. I don’t know if anyone else inspected it. No lights appeared until after I had it towed to the dealership. They said the warning lights came on for them.

3/23/2022

With 8500 miles while driving the engine started ticking, jerks on acceleration, Trans shifting very slow and a light warning with “reduced acceleration while driving” came on. Then immediately after the Instrument panels warning lights indicated service traction control, forward collision system unavailable, and check engine light all illuminated. Then car stopped accelerating and was almost rear ended on highway. Luckily no one was hurt. What is GM/Chevy doing to fix this issue. Apparently, this is common issue with the new Tahoes.

The vehicle has stalled three times since I bought it a week ago. I will be driving and the engine will stall, putting the vehicle into neutral gear. The dashboard will then instruct me to press the power button, and when I do the vehicle restarts and will be in park. It has happened once while driving on the interstate and twice while making turns into oncoming traffic. When I go to accelerate there will be no acceleration, the vehicle will just be in neutral with no warning.

12/26/2021

Starting about 6 months after I received my 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 one day when I started the vehicle the instrument cluster was blank (i.e. black and not displaying anything). I turned the vehicle off, then restarted the vehicle and it was still blank. There was not warning or indication this was about to occur. I only needed to go a short distance, so I went to my destination and turned the vehicle off. When I returned to the vehicle (approx 15 minutes later) and started the vehicle the instrument cluster was working again. This occurred another 4 or 5 times over the following 4+/- weeks. I made a service appointment with a Chevy dealer. There were reportedly no codes identifying an issue, but Chevy had a bulletin ("22-na-130"), which I believe was a software update to address various things, including a blank screen, and the vehicle was "reprogrammed". Now a week after this service appointment, the same issue occurred again. Based on my discussions with the Chevy dealer's service department, I have little confidence they can address this issue without Chevy's assistance and based on the process that was described Chevy's assistance for issues such as this may not be addressed expeditiously. As a blank instrument cluster results in the driving not having access to the speed the vehicle is traveling or any other performance metrics of the vehicle I believe this is a serious safety issue. While I have driven the vehicle in this condition, it is only because I was going short distances on local roads where one cannot travel over 25 or 30 MPH. If I was going to be driving on a highway, the vehicle would be unusable. Please investigate this issue, as Chevy's bulletin "22-na-130" and the associated software update has clearly not addressed the issue, and cause Chevy to develop a fix for the issue and recall all impacted vehicles for updating. FYI - I am in the process of scheduling another service appointment. Thank you.

We were driving down the interstate when the engine shut off. All electrical was on in the car, but the engine turned off. The dash instructed me to press the start button. We were in traffic at the time of the incident with about half full gas tank. I selected neutral and proceeded to start the engine. It started with no issues and was able to be put back in gear. Continued without further issues.

Purchased car on April 7, 2022 with 10 miles on it. Drove home, parked car in driveway and a few days later went to start car and no power. Car had 22 miles. Start button was stuck on on but no power and engine was off. I could not get the start button to turn off. Car towed to dealer. Dealer checked car and couldn’t find anything wrong they called GM support and checked for known issues with other 2022 Tahoes. Nothing found. Software updated. Battery has full charge. Car released. I drove car home, parked in driveway and after a few days went to start car - same issue no power. Car has 44 miles. Start button stuck in on but no power, engine off, could not turn off start button. Car towed to dealer. Dealer kept car for a week. Dealer contacted GM support. Found that battery was draining but could not find what was causing drain. Dealer replaced battery. Car released. I drove car home and so far now at 200 miles the car seems ok. I am reporting this because what if I had lost power while driving on the highway. Plus I have heard of several 2002 Tahoe owners that this is occurring. The dealer has been great. I blame this on GM for releasing a bad car.

Lifters ticking Fuel Injector misfires

9/2/2023

Vehicle was driven into parking lot and was idling. Without warning, it began misfiring and stalled. Vehicle would not restart and was towed to the nearest dealer. The diagnosis was a fuel pump driver module that had internally shorted. Thankfully, it failed in the parking lot. We had recently arrived at this location for the winter having driven the vehicle approximately 1500 miles over 4 days. We were lucky the failure did not occur on the highway as the unexpected stalling would potentially be a significant safety concern. Please note that this vehicle is a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The 2021 Tahoe was under a recall for this same issue (see recall N212332040). The dealer said that this is a common problem with these vehicles. Perhaps the recall needs to be expanded.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while starting the vehicle at a parking lot, the ABS, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), braking system failure, traction control, and the brake motor warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated she began to drive at a slow speed and noticed that while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was firm and failed to stop the vehicle. The contact came to a stop and parked the vehicle. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer however, the warning lights were off. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.

Remote started my Tahoe, got in and the dash said “brake system failure”. I put it in reverse and sure enough complete loss/failure of brakes. Let the car shut down and cycle, tried to move it again, same thing happened. Depressed my foot on the brake to the floor and no response from the brakes or braking system.

I was driving down the interstate and unexpectedly the sun roof exploded. There was no debris from the cars distantly on front of me that could've damaged the sunroof like this. There were no temperatures fluctuations that coud've caused this. Luckily, I had the screen shut which kept the glass from reigning me, my husband, and my daughter. After stopping the vehicle, my husband took a photograph. It was was noticed that most of the glass came out of the vehicle as opposed to inward. With that being said, the sunroof exploded and was not hit from an outside source.

3/13/2023

Transmission Failure/Windshield Wiper Failure- While traveling approximately 48mph, the vehicle completely locked up. Tires screeched, vehicle came to a grinding halt. Two of my children were in the vehicle (15yrs and 7yrs of age.) This was sudden and without warning! The vehicle almost rolled, and we were lucky that no vehicles were behind us or we would have been rearended. At that time, we pulled over and the vehicle was towed to the service department at the local dealership. Just days before, the windshield wipers completely failed while driving, in the middle of a downpour. I had to pull the vehicle over and wait for the rain to calm before returning home. Also, the entire display panel went blank while driving, as if the vehicle was turned off. I was unable to determine speed etc. There had been a cascade of odd malfunctions days prior to the major events, the clock stopped working, the compass stopped working. The service department informed me that there was a "Bad Valve Body." I was told by the service manager that he had "never heard" of a vehicle doing this. My children and I are terrified to get back in the vehicle, as we almost had what could have been a fatal accident. I am in contact with GM/Chevrolet on possible remedies. I should note again that there are several other defects with the vehicle, that all seem to surround microchip/electrical components. They all seemed to have failed at once, which leads me to believe there is a larger systemic problem with this vehicle, the processors, and components. Again, this was a sudden cascade of failures. I have video of the windshield wipers non-functional during the rain. I was able to take the video after I had stopped. This is exceptionally dangerous. This vehicle is available for inspection. There were NO warnings lamps or messages. NO insurance has been involved. To my knowledge the dealer has not re-created the failures, but I have video of the panel black out as well.

The contact stated that a quart of engine oil was being added once per month. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure or to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the engine was replaced in 2022, and the replacement engine was consuming oil and making abnormal sounds. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a red light, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, and the vehicle operated normally. The contact stated that later, while making a right turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that after restarting the vehicle, the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure or diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 49,000.

After rain, sloshing water can be heard in the head liner. Moving forward it pours out through the upper rear seat belt slots and the aft ac vents. Stopping causes water to pour out of the upper forward electronic panel where the Onstar button is located. Unsure of corrosion and damage to upper electronics. Started after vehicle was 2 months old and every hard rain or car wash since.

7/6/2022

Purchased a new 2022 Tahoe from the dealer, Casey Chevrolet Newport News Virginia, in February 2022. Vehicle developed a roof leak in June. The leak caused water to pour out of the overhead console on to the dash, seat belt reels, the overhead light fixtures and on the drivers feet after running through the dash. Taken to dealer where it was in the shop for four weeks, windshield and headliner removed and a defective weld was thought to be the problem. After the next rain the same problem was evident. Returned the vehicle to dealer and headliner removed again but they were unable to determine the source of the water. The interior electronics and electrical components have been rain soaked for four months. When driving the vehicle after a rain and having water pour out of the ceiling between the driver and the windshield is unnerving and unsafe. Additionally most of the function of the controls are electronic and continuing dousing with water is a serious concern. The air bags in the A and B pillars are probably getting wet as well.

My name is [XXX] On April 8, 2022, I purchased a 2022 High country Tahoe (VIN [XXX]). The window sticker (see attached) states Safety & Security Chevy Safety Assist; •Automatic Emergency Braking •Front Pedestrian Braking •Forward Collision Alert •Rear Cross Traffic Alert •Rear Pedestrian Alert The window sticker also states that the Front/Rear Parking Assist was deleted and it will be retrofitted. However, there is no mention that the above mention features were not working. I have inquired and could not get an answer from the dealer, and/or General Motors. So, I made an appointment and took it to the dealer for service. After waiting for four hours, the dealer technician gave me a work order (see attached) stating that; “when looking up the vehicle build RPOs found that vehicle at this time is not built with park assist, the park assist works with many other modules as image processing and front camera/object detection and without one all the other features the vehicle comes with will not be present until GM comes out with hotfix form concern.” I paid $82,780 for the High Country Tahoe because all the Safety features, to find out that no all of them are working properly. This is FALSE ADVERTISING, it should had been disclose, that the Safety features were not available at this time, therefore not working correctly. I want General Motors to issue a warning alert to all buyers, notify them that Safety Features are not working in order to prevent accidents. I want General Motors to fix my Tahoe and ensure that all the Safety Features works correctly immediately. Hi, My truck was ordered May 2021. Came in January 22, 2022 as a 22 model year. Its a 4 wheel drive with the Duramax diesel option. Ran great until around 6000 miles where I started to experience a miriad of electril issues including a completely malfunction anti collision system, transmission problems, several electrical problems and worst of all "Reduced Acceleration" otherwise known as "Limp Mode" in diesels. The check engine light came on also and my MPG dropped from 18-28 mpg to 12 mpg.The dealer told me that they were backed up with diesel trucks and to hold off. On July 8, 2022, the truck went into limp mode while trying to accerae onto a major highway. I had the horn blown at me and almost got rearended trying to get on the highway. I had nowhere to go and it took me about two minutes to get up to 60mph. I got off the highway and limped to the dealership. The truck spent 122 days in the dealership and despite me trying to lemon the truck, they said it was fixed after around 110 days. I was forced to pick it up. It broke down in the parking lot before I could drive out of the dealership. I am now taking action agaisnt GM. This is not a Chevrolet issue with the dealership but GM. Their factory reps rebuilt some wiring harness in my truck. Something to do with the transmission module. Again, I dont have a problem with the dealer. The truck seems to be running fine but I have notice some strange behavior with the forward anti collision system and the auto brake. It doesn’t work all the time. I can,t tell when it will work and if it works at all. I will be bringing the truck back to the dealership. Now, this is a major problem because im not the only one complaining about the anti collision system. I know someone who says his same year diesel Chevy pickup has an issue with the camera not working in the front and he doesn’t trust the anti collision system as well and he is in the business. This is a major problem GM is hiding from the public.

I was driving the truck on the highway and on slower roads. The trucks auto break kept coming on, it could have caused an accident or worse to my family in the truck and others around us driving. This happened twice before but only did it once. Last night it happened to us around 15 times. We had to get off the roads for everyone’s safety. We haven’t had it inspected yet because it just happened. No lights or warning messages showed up at the time. The check engine light came on at the end of all that tho. When I got out of the truck I could smell the burning of the breaks or tires.

About five days ago, my air bag sensors came on and a strange message on the 2022 Tahoe display. It said “ Service Safety Restraint System” needs to be serviced. I received numerous messages from the app and computer system saying something is wrong. I took the Truck in to GMC Brandywine service in Brandywine, MD. I was told they couldn’t fix it and GM knows it’s an issue and may do a recall. I am riding with my son and grandkids in an Unsafe vehicle. I was told something is wrong with the computer. The way it’s communicating the issue but nothing seems right with this truck. I had this truck in service for majority of my ownership for numerous defects. This airbag sensor has had issues in Jan 2022 and now it’s back. They are not fixing these issues and could cost me or my family’s life. I will upload the invoice later. I have to get it out of the truck. I was told GM knows about these issues. But all year it’s been numerous issues and the trucks are not functional.

The safety issues with this vehicle all seem to be related to the vehicle Park Assist and cross track functions. The dealer has attempted on several occasions to fix the vehicle without success. There is usually no warning when theses functions are not working properly except sometimes there is flashing spot on the screen instead of warnings. While the dealer has not been able to duplicate some of the issues, they have witnessed the flashing screen and I have provided videos of the dashboard when in failure mode. While I know one can't rely solely on the park assistance features, the inconsistency of this system poses great risk for pedestrians and property damage. The dealer stated that the manufacturer of my car is aware of this problem but does not have a solution. There have been no accidents to date so the issue is on-going. Description of problems: 1-The Park Assist system often does not detect large vehicles, walls, trees, etc. that are within inches of my vehicle. On other occasions the alert system works fine. I back the Tahoe into our garage at least once every day. This vehicle does not perform consistently under the same circumstances. Some days the Park Assist function works well and other days it seems to sense nothing behind me. 2- A flashing white dot sometimes appears in the center of the camera screen when backing up. In most cases the Park Assist is not functioning when the flashing dot appears. (A video of this condition was provided to the dealer.) 3-My car is equipped with 2 types of warning signals indicating when there is a potential collision: a.Option 1: Vibrating driver’s seat b.Option 2: Audible beeps I prefer audible beeps and always select Option 2. My truck frequently changes the mode to vibrating seat. This is very disconcerting and annoying when the truck suddenly switches to vibrations unexpectedly. I do not like the vibrating seat and expect the vehicle to retain the setting I choose.

Brake control module failed and is available for inspection. It is still at the dealership as the part needed for repair is backordered. While driving 70mph on the interstate, my 2022 Tahoe stopped accelerating, the engine seized, and shifted in to neutral at 52,000. I was able to coast to the side of an extremely busy interstate, right before a bridge and wait for assistance. The dealer confirmed this is a problem known to this vehicle. The engine is on backorder, even under warranty. They say an SPAC has been filed and I had to make a claim to GM to reimburse them for the starter, battery block, and battery they decided to replace first. They said it could take up to 3 months to receive a new engine and there was a waitlist for a 10day loaner car. The vehicle had just been at the dealer for a 50,000 mile check up and warranty repair. There were no other symptoms prior to this catastrophic engine failure.

On June 1st, I was put in a very dangerous situation while driving on the highway. Out of nowhere, my vehicle’s engine started clicking and immediately converted to a rough in the middle of highway traffic. I was terribly afraid from my life. I was headed to Duluth, GA for a meeting but had turn around and drive 31 miles back in rush hour traffic to Steve Reyman Chevrolet Dealership, in cobb county in this condition. I was extremely stressed; afraid that i could potentially be injured in an accident or fire, because of the engine. Several never before seen warning signals appeared. These signals included Service ESC, Service Traction Control, Forward Collision System Unavailable and the check engine light. I had just had my truck serviced on 5/26, as the dealership had been monitoring the oil consumption of my 2022 Tahoe. By the time, I arrived to the dealership, the service department was closed, so the vehicle was left overnight. I met with the service advisor in the morning and was told there was a cylinder 4 misfire and that a fuel injector and spark plugs was needed. After picking up, my vehicle on June 12th, the issued was not resolved and my vehicle was inoperable. I regularly service my vehicle including recommended service, so I’m not sure how something this extreme could happen. Looking back at my service records, there have been several occurrences where the vehicle stalled out and the dealer blamed the auto/start stop feature or a failed battery. All pretty ridiculous claims for a brand new truck. I’m convinced this vehicle was produced poorly. My truck has 72,325 miles on it, however I came across several forums with new body Tahoes & Suburbans with way less mileage (i.e. 4300 miles) that experienced the exact same issue. Attached, you will find all the times, I brought my vehicle in for service for a major concerning issue.

3rd row seat headrest will not stay up. Unable to sit in the seat due to headrest bending forward.

12/26/2024

The sliding center console/armrest in my 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe moves too easily and does not remain securely locked in place when fully extended forward. Even light pressure, such as when a passenger or driver rests an elbow, can cause it to shift suddenly. This can startle the driver and cause a momentary loss of focus, creating a safety hazard while the vehicle is in motion. When the console is fully extended forward, it should lock in position. In my vehicle, it often fails to stay locked, allowing unintended movement in each direction. This happens during normal driving conditions and can be triggered accidentally by an occupant’s elbow or arm. The sudden movement is distracting, especially at highway speeds, and could contribute to an unsafe driving situation. GM issued TSB PIE0677B in April 2022 describing this exact condition (“Power Floor Console Armrest will not lock in place and/or console lid slides back and forth freely”), indicating they are aware of the defect. However, there has been no recall. Given the potential for distraction and loss of control, this should be addressed as a safety recall.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS

Previewing the first 1 complaint summaries.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe used to haul a 2023 Wanco WLTV FD-304 Rev A Lighting Structure. The contact stated the Wanco Lighting Structure had a narrow wheelbase and that the lighting mast failed to fold down, and that all the weight remained at a high level. In addition, the diesel engine was behind the axle instead of on top or behind the axle instead of on top or in front causing the trailer to pull off the hitch. The contact stated that the hitch coupler was bent outward and disconnected from the ball. As a result, the contact stated that the failure caused the trailer to tip over while turning. The San Diego Police Department's Fleet Safety Division diagnosed that the weight hitched on the Wanco Lighting Structure did not support the specification limitation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The tires seemed to lose their tackiness at 44k miles. With tread life being around 48% they were deemed insufficient and needing replaced by the tire shop during an inspection. A solo accident where the vehicle lost control in wet weather warranted an inspection. The tires had even wear for the most part, but were showing cracking around the sidewall. The tires were only 2 years old and had 44k miles on them. The vehicle and tires were always parked in a garage and/or parking structure out of the sun/elements. With the same brand tires having an 80k mile limited warranty, this shouldn't have been an issue.
