VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC SEVERAL TIMES. CAR BEGAN JERKING WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WAS AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVER AND THE OTHER CARS AROUND. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A MILE RADIUS. I BARELY MADE IT TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP WAS FAULTY.

POWER TRAIN

I have found that the TCS/DSC control malfunctions occasionally and can lead to lose of power to the wheels right when it is necessary to avoid an accident. The worst time was when it was snowing out and even if I floored it the wheels did not turn. Once I shut off the TCS/DSC control I regained control and was able to avoid an accident. Originally I had thought that the occasional hesitation when slowing to make a turn and then suddenly accelerating only to find the car bogged down was not from the transmission but from the TCS/DSC control. Ever since the car was new I have had this problem of hesitation when turning from a slowing down to near stop then accelerating only to find that the car will not accelerate for a few seconds. I have now tried to deactivate the TCS/DSC control to avoid this problem.

The car had precisely 51,255 miles. I took it in for a 50K regular service and asked them to run a diagnostic because there was a grinding sound, so I asked them to check the transmission fluid and run an OBD diagnostic. Between my last regular service and the current service, the TRANSMISSION broke; the car is unsafe to drive at this point. The transmission could have stopped on the highway since I do not work locally. This issue happened suddenly. I took the first appointment I could get, and I am without a vehicle today. I will never feel safe in this car again. I must express my absolute disappointment in my 2017 Toyota Yaris IA with 51,255 miles. I just paid off this vehicle early through Toyota Financial. I know a car is a machine, but as a Toyota, it should not have this issue with just a little over 51K miles. I feel like Toyota sold me a lemon, and once they fix it, there will be some refurbished parts and some new neither makes me feel comfortable with the vehicle anymore. NOTE: the brakes went up before the first scheduled maintenance. This car appears to be a riding deathtrap! No wonder Toyota stopped manufacturing it, from what I have discovered. Thank GOD for my warranty.

STEERING

At about 25,000 miles, my vehicle steering began to lightly bind when driving on a straight road at highway speed. Although the steering wheel could be turned with some minor extra effort, the experience was troubling. At 29,880 miles I took my vehicle to the local dealer and asked to have the steering checked. The dealer was not able to duplicate the problem and they did not charge me. The problem gradually worsened until 41,020 miles when I returned to the dealer with the same issue. This time they found the steering shaft assembly was defective and said that it was a dangerous situation. I asked them to fix the problem which they did promptly. I have service records from both visits.

For several years the steering has been binding and lightly locking durind highway driving. After numerous attempts to have the dealer test drive the vehicle to duplicate the problem, in 2022 they said there was a dangerous problem with the steering. They replaced the steering shaft and the problem was almost completely fixed. Gradually the steering began to bind again and on 18 Dec 2023 I asked the dealer to check the steering and they could not duplicate the problem during a test drive.

THE WINDSHIELD CRACKS WITH NO REASON (NOTHING HIT/IMPACTED IT). WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER WITH AN OEM WINDSHIELD. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THE NEW WINDSHIELD HAS TWO MAJOR CRACKS, AGAIN WITH NOTHING HAVING IMPACTED IT AND WITH NO MAJOR TEMPERATURE SWINGS THAT MIGHT CAUSE A CRACK. (DATE IS ESTIMATED.) VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ALL TIMES THE WINDSHIELDS CRACKED.

SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, IT HAS MADE A VERY HIGH PITCH NOISE WHEN I PRESS THE BREAKS. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN BUT IT DOES HAPPEN AND THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO UNDERSTAND WHY NOR HAVE THEY TRIED TO FIX IT UNTIL THE FREE PACKAGE WAS OVER.

WHEN I DRIVE OVER REFLECTORS IN THE ROAD AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD GOING SPEED LESS THAN 25 MPH CAR WILL RANDOMLY ENGAGE FRONT END COLLISION WARNING, BOTH AT DAY AND NIGHT. THE LIGHT APPEARS ON DASH, THE ENGINE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSES AND THE CAR JERKS OUT OF MY CONTROL. I HAVE TAKEN TO TWO TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND SHOWED THEM VIDEO. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE PROBLEM, AS SOON AS I LEAVE, THE PROBLEM REPEATS. I WAS TOLD THE CAR IS PERFORMING IN A NORMAL MANNER AND THERE IN NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I'VE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES AND CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY WITH NO ASSISTANCE.

I was involved in a accident where the airbags did not deploy. I was hit on my driver's side and the vehicle was totaled but the airbags never deployed. I also dealt with electrical issues the entire time I had the vehicle. I believe the electrical issues cause the airbags not to deploy. I did receive the vehicle in that condition.
