This vehicle stalls intermittently when it comes to a full stop. This problem still exists and last occurred on June 27, 2022. The vehicle has an intermittent issue (unpredictable with months, or minutes in between). Weather and road conditions have varied. Location has varied as well. Dates of occurrence are February 13, 2022; March 12, 2022 (occurred twice within a 20-minute time span); and June 27. The vehicle stalls when it comes to a full stop (on all four occasions, this has occurred at a red light). The check engine light and the power steering light come on, as well as a message on the dashboard, stating, "Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low," "Engine Stopped. Press Break Firmly to Restart," and "Press Break Firmly to Restart Engine. ----- to start." During this time, a continuous *beep* is coming from the car. Shifting to Neutral, Manual, Drive, or Reverse does not resolve the issue. Shifting to Park makes the beeping sound go away, and I have to power on the car. On all four occasions, this happens seconds before or while the light turned green on high-speed and residential multi-lane routes. I have video evidence of this issue, but that is not an allowed file format.

8/24/2022

I was on my way back home from work. I stopped at a red light, when my car suddenly shut off and started making a noise and then the monitor said: engine failure and power steering low. I could not move the steering wheel. Everyone was honking at me because I was in the middle of the road with the car shut off. I put the car on parking and then I was able to turn it on again. It is concerning that the car shut off. This is clearly a safety problem with The Toyota Corolla Cross. The dealership seems to not want to deal with the problem. Other owners of Toyota Corolla Cross have had the same issue. I believe there should be a recall.

My brand new 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross has 2 issues: 1) The 'pre-collision' feature brakes when I don't need it to. I told Toyota that I've almost got into car accidents but they said they 'can't turn it off'. 2) There is paint peeling from my front bumper for no reason. Brian Kessler at Marietta Toyota said “it's likely because when I ordered my car in 'white', the bumper was black, so they painted it without primer”. They keep telling me that "they'll call me regarding this issue", but they haven't. This vehicle's pre-collision system is over-sensitive as it continues to attempt to prevent an accident by taking control of the vehicle when I don't need/want it to. It suddenly brakes when I need to continue in motion to avoid a particular hazard, potentially causing an accident. I’ve been driving for 30+ years, and I have an impeccable driving record, so I don’t need my car to ‘think’ for me and take control of the vehicle. The service department at Marietta Toyota told me to contact Toyota.com to have them give me a ‘waiver’ with Toyota, stating that if I am involved in a motor vehicle accident as a result of this feature, then Toyota will be responsible. I spoke with at least 3 Toyota representatives at your Brand Engagement center, and was told that this feature cannot be removed, nor is there any ‘waiver’ form. Then they told me that since there is nothing 'wrong' with the car, there is nothing they can do. The last representative I spoke to told me that my complaint has been recorded and is on my ‘Toyota file’. He agreed to email me a copy of my complaint and the case number attached to my record, but I never received an email from him. I can't get them to return my calls, and I'm tired of driving to and from the service department just for them to tell me that they'll 'call me', when they have not. I am beyond angry as my issues regarding this vehicle are not resolved, and I feel betrayed by a company that has falsely gained my trust, and then destroyed it

Vehicle message flashes up: "Voltage abnormality Steering Power Low" and car shuts off entirely while driving!!!! A quick Google yields scores of other people experiencing the same problem, many of them bringing in the car to the dealership with no fix made! Only 5,000 miles on the car! Vehicle has been brought back to dealership after being towed home.

4/3/2023

We came to a complete stop and the engine turned off completely. We got a message that said “power steering is low.” Input the car in park and had to restart the car. This happened twice that day. I believe intermittent wipers were on. Vehicle has cut off multiple times at stoplight, stop sign, etc. Error message flashes on instrument panel “ENGINE STOPPED STEERING POWER LOW”. Most recently this week 5 times in one day (6 times during the week). Each time has been during rain with windshield wipers running. Must put car in park and restart engine.

I experienced 4 near-death experiences by this car. 1. 10/14/23 Car caught on fire. Car was parked and turned off. Everything inside was shut off. When I stepped out the car, the engine was still running but it sounded loud like a lawnmower. I went back into the car and turned it back on. Several lights and system malfunction messages displayed on dashboard. I turned off the car and everything inside shut off. When I stepped out the car, the engine was still on, sounded like a lawn mower, and caught on fire. Estimator from my insurance couldn't identify the issue and had car taken to dealership services. I contacted Toyota corporate who claimed they would send an investigator, but he never came. Dealership replaced engine and engine harnesses that burned, and discharged car to me on 12/05/23. 2. 01/09/24 while driving on the highway at 65 mph, my engine shut off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the left shoulder to safety. Several system malfunction msgs displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services that evening. I had an appt for 8:15AM the next day. Servicer from Toyota dealership called me at 8:34 AM and told me to come pick up my car because they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I refused and explained the dangerous situation. Master mechanic ran more tests and couldn't find the issue so discharged the car back as is on 1/13/24. 3. 2/5/24, driving on highway at 65 mph, engine shuts off and steering wheel locked. I had a difficult time getting into the right shoulder to safety again. Several system malfunctions displayed on dashboard. Car was towed to dealership services. Servicer from Toyota calls again and tells me to pick up vehicle. They said they didn't find any issues with car. I begged them to run more tests. 2/14/24 They found "starter" part to be defected. Starter replaced and car discharged on 2/27/24. 4. 2/28/24 Driving on highway again, system malfunction msgs displayed. Car now in dealership. 4.

3/6/2024

When driving in the rain and my start/stop function is turned on, my car will turn off and make a loud beep with a message stating “engine stopped steering power low”. The check engine light and the power steering light pop up on the dashboard and I have to restart the car. This happens in the middle of traffic and is scary to think that it can happen any time while I’m driving. My car has less than 15,000 miles on it. This has happened numerous times, but more and more frequently lately.

Got into a collision and the air bags did not deploy when they should have. There was a recall 2 weeks prior to the accident but no notification. This was a safety risk in the accident when the air bags did not deploy

7/14/2023

I am writing to complain about a serious safety defect in my 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross (VIN [XXX] ). On August 11, 2023, I recently received a letter from Toyota stating that the passenger airbag in my car may not deploy as designed in the event of a crash. This is a serious safety defect, and I am concerned about the safety of my car. I have owned my Corolla Cross for in excess of a year, and I have never been in an accident. However, I am a father with two young children, and I use my car every day to take them to school and activities. I am worried about the possibility of being in a car accident, and I do not want my children to be injured because of a defect in my car. I understand that Toyota is offering to fix the airbag for free. However, I am not comfortable with having a car that has a known safety defect. I would like to request that Toyota recall my car and replace it with a new car. I believe that I am entitled to a new car, because it is not my fault that my car has a safety defect. I am a loyal Toyota customer, and I have always been satisfied with my Toyota vehicles. However, I am disappointed that Toyota has not recalled my car to fix this safety defect. I hope that the NHTSA will investigate this matter and take action to ensure that Toyota recalls my car and replaces it with a new car. Thank you for your time and consideration. Toyota Corolla cross LE 2022 Feb. 17,2024 mileage 25,491 I called Toyota corporate & took my vehicle to Rick Hendrick Toyota in fayetteville nc on Feb 10, 2024. Neither party will assist me or acknowledge the problem. The driver seat moves down after raising it to the highest position on its own. There is a manufacturer defect on the 2022, 2023, 2024! After a few hours the seat drops 1 to 2 levels which is a safety concern as you don’t think about adjusting your manually seat every time you get into it.my car is still under warranty. This problem needs to be addressed immediately.

My SUV has been jerking really bad when I accelerate it almost feels like whiplash. Every time I take it to the dealer they tell me there's nothing wrong with it. It makes this knocking sound coming from the engine and when I accelerate it doesn't pick up speed.

7/6/2023

I had this issue 2 times so far, and I thought I was crazy since it hasn't happened since, but I noticed another report of someone else having the exact same issue. This prompted me to include my own report, as this could be a fatal flaw that needs review immediately. While I was pulling out into traffic from a stop sign to cross multiple lanes, my engine on my 2022 Corolla Cross XLE shut off without any warning. I was stopped at the stop sign, which the engine shut off as it's designed to. Upon releasing the brake, the engine started and I accelerated to cross the lanes to get into the left turning lane. As I accelerated, the engine shut off without any intervention from my part. There were no warnings on the dash, beeps, or error messages. I pressed the accelerator multiple times without any propulsion as traffic to my left was approaching me. Thankfully they slowed down seeing me "stopped" in the middle of the road. After a few seconds of being dead in the water, the engine kicked back on and I was able to accelerate again. The same thing happened at another time that was nearly identical to this situation. I do not remember the exact date of the occurrence, but I believe it was in April of 2023 and the second occurrence was a about a month later. Since then, I have not had this exact issue happen. Although, I have pulled into traffic and had the accelerator not react quickly, which caused me to "crawl forward" at a slow speed, even if I floored the pedal. This issue has happen many times, around 8, since I purchases the car in January of 2023.

I am concerned with the visibility of my car in the night/dark. When driving my car in the night I get flashed by divers behind me. I am almost completely sure it is because the rear lights are so small and dim. This car was not available for a test drive and often isn’t so how is a potential buyer to know of this issue unless it is pointed out? All of the demonstration videos are of the highest model which comes with the adequate lighting. The only way to have an adequately visible Corolla Cross (from behind) is to upgrade to the highest model. I worry that I am at a higher risk from other drivers of being rear ended when driving at night/on dimly lit streets.
