2015 HYUNDAI TUCSON. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ROUGH IDLE ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME, CODE CAME BACK WAS AN IMPERFECTION IN THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. THE SECOND AND THIRD TIME, THERE WAS NO CODE. *JB

I PURCHASED THIS CAR NOVEMBER 8 2014 WITH 99 MILES ON IT. WE'VE HAD SEVERE ISSUES WITH IT IN THE LAST YEAR. WE'VE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY'VE BEEN IN COMMUNICATION WITH HYUNDAI IN ORDER TO FIX IT. THERE WAS NO SOLUTIONS, JUST "TRY THIS & SEE IF IT WORKS." IN JULY 2016 I STARTED HAVING MEDICAL ISSUES, WE'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE NOT WANTING TO START. AT FIRST IT WASN'T WANTING TO START & THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT FOR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, THEY CLAIMED THAT WAS THE ISSUE. SO THAT RECALL WAS PREFORMED AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF. LOW AND BEHOLD THE ISSUE WAS NOT CORRECTED, THE CAR STILL HAD EPISODES WHERE IT WOULD NOT START. THE ISSUE WAS NOT SOMETHING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD RE-CREATE. SECOND TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY REPLACED THE INHIBITOR SWITCH, AND THAT ALSO HAS NOT WORKED. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN BUT THE CODE IS COMING BACK AS THE PURGE VALVE. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS NO POWER AND FEELS AS IF THE MOTOR COULD DIE AT ANY SECOND. I TRAVEL AWAY ABOUT TWICE A MONTH FOR VARIOUS SPECIALIST DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS. MY VEHICLE HAS LEFT ME STRANDED THERE SEVERAL TIMES. I NO LONGER FEEL MY VEHICLE IS SAFE OR DEPENDABLE FOR MYSELF OR ANY OF MY 3 CHILDREN TO BE TRANSPORTED IN IT. I HAVE CONTACTED THE HYUNDAI COMPANY DIRECTLY BUT NO RESPONSE FROM THEM AS OF YET. FOR A 2015 MODEL VEHICLE THIS MAY ISSUES IS RIDICULOUS!! MY HUSBAND AND I ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER HYUNDAI VEHICLE!

WITH THE 2015 HYUNDAI TUCSON, WITHIN 12 HOURS OF OWNING THE CAR AND DRIVING IT OFF THE DEALERSHIP LOT, WE EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE KEY INDICATOR BLINKING WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR AND CAR WOULD NOT START AT WORK. IT STARTED FINE AT HOME AN MOSTLY ANYWHERE ELSE. ONLY BY PRESSING THE FOB ITSELF ON PUSH BUTTON START, DID CAR START AT WORK PARKING LOT. IF FOB NOT PRESSED ONTO PUSH BUTTON, WOULD NOT START. DEALERSHIP REPLACED KEY FOB AND BATTERIES, DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. SERVICE DEPARTMENT MEMBER ACCOMPANIED US TO PARKING LOT, EXPERIENCED SAME ISSUE IN WORK PARKING LOT. WITH ASSISTANCE FROM SECURITY GUARDS AT WORK, REALIZED THIS ISSUE ONLY OCCURRED WHEN PARKING NEXT TO A SOLAR PANEL ON A SUNNY DAY AT WORK PARKING LOT. TO COMPENSATE FOR ISSUE NOW, CAR IS PARKED FARTHER AWAY FROM OFFICE BUILDING AS IT WAS DISCOVERED SOLAR PANELS ON LIGHT POLE INTERFERED WITH ANTENNA FOR KEY. SERVICE DEPT MEMBER FROM HYUNDAI SAID THEY BELIEVE THEY SAW AN EMAIL/SERVICE BULLETIN REFERENCING SUCH AN ISSUE, AND DID NOT SUGGEST ANY REMEDIATION EXCEPT TP PARK AWAY FROM THE LIGHT POLE. OUR WORKAROUND HAS BEEN TO PARK AWAY FROM SOLAR PANEL LIGHT POLES OR COVER THE SENSOR ON THE TOP OF THE DASHBOARD. THIS HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP'S SOLUTION WAS TO SEND AN EMAIL WITH THE HYUNDAI CORPORATE PHONE NUMBER FOR FURTHER ESCALATION. THIS IS A HUGE CONCERN FOR US AS MORE HOUSES AND COMPANIES ARE ERECTING SOLAR PANELS, AND NOW WILL WE HAVE TO PICK WHERE WE PARK OUR TUCSON BASED ON IF A SOLAR PANEL IS NEARBY. IF YOU LIVE NEAR SOLAR PANELS, DON'T BUY A TUCSON WITH A PUSH BUTTON STAR.

My car has been subject to safety recall for its anit-lock break system module system since February 2022. It is now the middle of May, 2022. Hyundai, in the Sacramento area of California, says they do not have parts in stock for performing the mandated recall and will not call me back or give me any estimate for when I can have the part. The Hyundai of America representitive just told me I could keep calling, putting the burden on me, and not assisting me further in terms of becoming part of a list of people that still need the recall done, etc.. The notice says my car's engine compartment might catch on fire while parked or driving without this recall. That's pretty ridiculous and unsafe. They need to provide a remedy.

I WAS PARKING IN A PARKING GARAGE AND HAD TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN INTO A SPACE WITH CARS ON BOTH SIDES. WHEN I NORMALLY PARK, MY FOOT IS OVER THE BRAKE AND I TAP THE BRAKE AS I GO IN. IN THIS CASE, AS SOON AS I BEGAN TURNING RIGHT, MY CAR TOOK OFF LIKE A SHOT. IT FELT LIKE A CAR BEING FLOORED. I BARELY MISSED ONE OF THE CARS AND SLAMMED INTO A CONCRETE WALL, MAKING A 4 X 6 HOLE IN THE WALL AND SETTING OFF THE AIR BAG IN THE STEERING WHEEL. EXPLODING SUNROOF. I HAD JUST GOTTEN ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY DRIVING MY BRAND NEW 2015 HYUNDAI TUSCON. I HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOUD "POP" SOUND. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GUNSHOT. THEN THE MESH SUNROOF VISOR BEGAN TO SAG AND I COULD HEAR AND FEEL WIND COMING INTO THE VEHICLE FROM THAT AREA. I GOT OFF THE EXPRESSWAY, PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT TO LOOK AT THE ROOF. THE ENTIRE SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. THERE WERE LARGE AND SMALL SHARDS OF SHARP GLASS SITTING ON TOP OF THE MESH INTERIOR SUNROOF COVER. I TRIED TO MOVE THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE CAUSING THE MESH TO SAG SO MUCH, BUT I CUT MY FINGERS WHILE DOING THIS SO I STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT (ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY). WHILE DRIVING, I WAS FRIGHTENED THAT THE WEIGHT OF THE GLASS ON THE MESH WOULD CAUSE IT TO RIP OR COLLAPSE. AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DID NOT TELL ME ABOUT HYUNDAI SUNROOF RECALLS THAT I HAVE SINCE READ ABOUT. NOW THEY WANT ME TO COME AND PICK UP THE "REPAIRED" VEHICLE BUT I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING DEFECT. *TR

1/8/2015

WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY THE SUNROOF ON MY 3 WEEK OLD CAR SUDDENLY IMPLODED AT RANDOM. IT WAS NOT HIT BY ANY OBJECTS OR DEBRIS. THE PANORAMIC ROOF WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME BUT THE SCREEN UNDERNEATH WAS OPEN SO THAT YOU COULD SEE THROUGH THE WINDOW. THE GLASS WAS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE FRONT AND BACK SEATS AS WELL AS FOUND ON TOP OF THE BACK PORTION OF THE ROOF. NO INJURIES RESULTED BUT AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. *TR

AFTER HAVING TO GET THE STATE PATROL TO STOP TRAFFIC ON ALL THREE LANES WE DROVE CAR ON THE RIM TO THE OPPOSITE OF THE HIGHWAY WHERE THERE WAS A MEDIAN STRIP. WHEN WE WENT TO REPLACE THIS TIRE, WITH GOOD TREAD AFTER SOME 56,000 MILES WE LEARNED THAT ANOTHER TIRE, THE L FRONT, ALSO HAD DELAMINATED AND SEPARATED, AND THAT THERE WERE TWO LARGE BALD SPOTS WHERE THE TIRE WAS FAILING ALSO. HAD THIS FRONT TIRE EXPLODED THIS WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE CAUSED A ROLLOVER AND PROBABLY KILLED OR SEVERELY INJURED MY DAUGHTER, THE DRIVER. I STILL HAVE THESE TIRES, WITH A FAILURE RATE OF AT LEAST 50%. KUMHO HAS DONE NOTHING TO RECALL THESE DANGEROUS TIRES, NOR HAS HYUNDAI. *JS

Twice in the last nine months (roughly December 14, 2020 at 67,000 miles & 9/7/21 at 84,300 miles) I have been left stranded on the side of the highway due to what two different Hyundai dealerships call "complete engine failure", which requires the replacement of the entire engine. Ultimately, when I asked what a "complete engine failure" entailed, the dealerships both told me there were metal flakes throughout my engine and that the engine had to be replaced. Both times the symptoms were as follows: loss of acceleration and a horrible ticking noise. The gas pedal is pushed to the floor and the car will not move forward. "Pop" or "Knock" and the engine starts smoking. No check engine light. No check oil pressure light. This is all within about 2 minutes. Moving from 65mph to 0 in a matter of 90 seconds without braking, when you have a semi truck behind you is terrifying. You put your hazards on immediately, pull over as soon as possible, and pray that nobody hits you. You try to stop and your brakes don't seem to be doing their job but you are finally able to stop. Once you've pulled over and the car stops smoking, you pop the hood. Immediately you notice the dipstick for the oil is about halfway out of the engine and oil has exploded everywhere under the hood. I purchased the car 14 months ago and so far, four of those months it has been undriveable due to complete engine failure, requiring replacement and fighting with Hyundai to do the right thing and repair it, which they refuse to do. Even when there is an active campaign (Campaign 966) to update the software to trigger a warning light. The campaign was issued 3/30/21 & I just received notification via first class presorted mail to have the software updated on 9/11/21. They say they won't make the repairs because it is out of warranty. I call lies. This is a direct result of failing to notify me in a timely manner to get the software update that would have at least supposedly triggered a warning light.

IT WOULD ONLY COME OUT ABOUT SIX INCHES AND THEN LOCK. HE REMOVED THE PLASTIC COVER ON THE LOWER SECTION OF THE B PILLAR AND FOUND SEVERAL PARTS OF THE RETRACTOR LAYING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE PILLAR. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS IN A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT, AND AS A RESULT, THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE CONSUMER STATED IF A VEHICLE IS IN AN ACCIDENT, THE PRETENSION ENGAGES THE LOCK UP MECHANISM AND ULTIMATELY, THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED, THE AUTO BODY SHOP TAMPERED WITH THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR UNIT, TO MAKE IT WORK. *JB

I called Wayne Mazda on 9/7/22 to make an appointment to fix this brake recall and to have my car serviced. I was given an appointment for January 17, 2023, which is 4 months later. I called several times to try and get a current appointment and was denied each time, so I contacted Hyundai and filed a complaint. My case number is 20485596. Also my dashboard light showing low tire pressure stays on, even though AAA came and filled the tires. We are seniors and my husband is in a wheelchair, and I feel 4 months is an unreasonable length of time to wait for a brake (potential fire) recall and service. Any help you can provide with this complaint would be appreciated.

FAQ

What are the most common owner complaints for the 2015 Hyundai Tucson?

The most reported complaint category for the 2015 Hyundai Tucson is ENGINE, with 112 owner reports. That is about 38% of all complaints logged here. Other recurring themes include ENGINE, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, UNKNOWN OR OTHER.

Are complaints about the 2015 Hyundai Tucson a serious warning sign?

Potentially. 217 complaint reports fall into higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components. That does not prove every vehicle has a defect, but repeated complaints in those systems justify a more careful pre-purchase inspection.

How should buyers use complaint data for the 2015 Hyundai Tucson?

Use complaints as an early pattern to investigate, not a standalone verdict. Start with the top complaint categories, compare those themes against the recall report and maintenance guide, then inspect service records for evidence that the same problem areas were already addressed. If the same issue appears repeatedly across complaints and recalls, treat it as a real ownership-risk flag.

Are complaints about the 2015 Hyundai Tucson severe?

217 complaint reports involve higher-attention systems such as brakes, steering, engine, powertrain, fuel, suspension, airbags, or electrical components, which is enough to justify a focused inspection before purchase.
