My wife was driving our 2024 Yukon Denali XL when, without warning or any indications, the engine shut down. She lost power to the car car in the middle of a highway, endangering herself, our children and other drivers on the road. She was unable to restart the car or change the gears. She had to call the police to help and they ordered a tow truck to have the car towed. The car had been in for an oil change 2 days prior at the dealership. We had the car towed there and they confirmed the engine needed to be replaced. Looks like we can add this to the laundry list of other GM trucks with the same issue.

On [XXX], while traveling from Florida to Kentucky to visit family for the holidays, our Yukon XL began to make a noise that mimicked that of a car going over Rumble strips on the highway. This happened at approximately the Tennessee Kentucky state lines. We stopped the car and contacted OnStar who then ran a remote diagnostic and stated that they could not tell if anything was wrong with our vehicle and recommend seeking out a GMC repair center once we arrived at our destination. The technician at the GMC dealership after evaluating our vehicle told us that there was metal in the oil filter and that the engine would need to be replaced. Our Car was not safe to drive or return to our home over 800 miles away. No warning lights came on in the vehicle to warn us that the car was at risk or failing. We are still without out our car as another engine has not been secured by GM. Our Car is still in Kentucky at the dealership who found the problem and is inoperable. Our car is 9 months old and had only approximately 13,000 miles on it and all service has been completed at a GMC dealership. While accelerating up to 55MPH, the vehicle automatically shifted into neutral without warning. We tried to shift it back into Drive, nothing happened. We pulled off the road to try and shift in a reduced speed and still nothing. We finally came to a stop and tried to shift it into Drive, still nothing. There was an error message: “conditions not correct for shift”. We place vehicle into Park, turned off the engine and tried to restart. The engine wouldn’t turn over. A police officer stopped and tried to jump the battery, nothing. The dashboard and lights turn on, but there was ZERO turn over with the ignition. We continued to try it to no avail. We had a tow company come and unplug the battery to try a system reset, and still nothing. Car was towed with no ability to get it into neutral.

2024 gmc Yukon with less than 2,000 miles decided not to start one day. Had a tow truck come to the house and pick it up to take to a local shop to get a new battery. Replaced the battery and the battery shop delivered to car back to our house and was totally fine…the next day we went to start it and again the battery was toast. So, got another tow truck to deliver to the dealership and had it checked out, the dealership says there are 12 codes popping up and they can’t figure out why the batteries are not holding at this point. This is a diesel Yukon. We had a 2022 Escalade that the motor went belly up on us 3 times before we bought this diesel Yukon thinking this problem would go away but I guess I was wrong. I will be returning this Yukon to the dealership and doing a buyback. We have been stranded way too many times with these gm vehicles and I’m starting to loose trust with General Motors.

The car has made a high pitched metallic rattle on cold start ever since I received it. I have taken it into the dealership multiple times for this and have had the lifters in the engine replaced but they never addressed the other noise, which I have video evidence of. The car died at 24,740 miles on the odometer in the middle of a highway in the middle of nowhere. The vehicle started to feel like it was braking on acceleration, there were no warning lights. The vehicle just lost acceleration power and I had to coast to the shoulder. Luckily I had time to pull over without interference from other traffic. Once on the side of the road I tried to crank the car again and a very loud metallic sound happened that sounded like I threw a wrench in a fan. The car lost electrical power very shortly after. I called onstar for help and she asked if I could shift the car into neutral which I could not. They had problems finding anyone that wasn’t hours out that could come tow my car and suggested that I try to find an alternate method of transportation since a wrecker service probably wouldn’t transport my entire family. Uber was not around to get me, Lyft was not around to get me and there was no taxi service. I had to rely on the local fire department to rescue us as it was hours with myself, my two children and my dog on the side of the road in 90F heat. Once at the dealership they confirmed it was indeed a catastrophic engine failure and I am currently waiting months for a back ordered engine with a rental I’m paying partially out of pocket for, in a car that’s entirely way too small for my family with no ETA on the engine in sight. I know multiple people personally who this has also happened to, same exact scenario and same exact engine just different model years.

Transmission will not shift out of 1st and 2nd gear. Backordered Valve Body Nationwide... none in the country. No ETA for this fix. Car has been in the shop over a month.

I purchased my new GMC Yukon XL in October 2024. In February, with about 9,000 miles on it, I was approaching a highway intersection and beginning to brake. My vehicle put itself into Neutral, and then shut off -- while I was still moving. No dash lights came on, except for a message stating that I needed to press the brake and restart my vehicle. I took my vehicle into the dealership where I purchased it and they kept it for 8 days. They were unable to reproduce the issue and didn't do anything to mitigate the problem except for doing a "radio update" and adding lubricant to a window track. I was told I have to wait until it happens again and try to record it.

My vehicle stalled while driving on a busy highway & I had no option but to pull over, which left me & my family in a very dangerous position. Had to remove my daughter's wheelchair onto a tow truck as the vehicle had no power to use the hoist for her powerchair. Again, on the side of a busy road! Towed the vehicle to a GM dealership, who stated there was catastrophic engine failure & the engine had to be replaced. Had no way to transport my daughter until I got a new engine since her hoist was stuck at the dealership.

I am filing this complaint regarding GM Recall N252494000 (NHTSA Campaign Number 25V274) for my 2024 GMC Yukon XL (VIN: [XXX] ). The issue involves a serious engine defect related to the crankshaft and/or connecting rods, which can result in catastrophic engine failure and loss of propulsion while driving—a clear and dangerous safety risk. I first became concerned when early reports of this issue began circulating publicly. As a father of young children, I became increasingly uneasy that my vehicle could potentially fail while in operation. Receiving GM’s formal recall letter only validated my growing concern for my family’s well-being. It’s deeply frustrating and unsettling. The notice states that parts to repair or replace the engine are not currently available, and offers no clear timeframe for when a remedy will be provided. I feel like we are being strung along while forced to continue using a vehicle that may become unsafe at any moment. This delay is unacceptable. There has been no offer of a loaner vehicle, no proactive communication from the dealer, and no assurance from GM that they are prioritizing driver safety over logistics. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether GM is doing enough to provide timely remedies to affected customers. I also urge you to consider whether interim solutions (such as alternative transportation or more aggressive recall execution) should be mandated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Vehicle was operating on the interstate with cruise control activated. Time was approximately 9:15pm. Weather was fair with temperatures in the lower 60's. Speed was approximately 73mph. Without any audible or warning light notifications the engine stalled and all exterior lighting, power assisted braking and steering was lost. The emergency flashers were immediately activated to warn vehicles in nearby proximity of our emergency status. I tried to restart the engine(the transmission was showing to be in N)with no success. During the attempt to restart, the exterior lighting was restored. With the path of travel now visible, I was able to slow the vehicle to a safe speed and exit from the roadway onto the shoulder. Upon stopping, the vehicle was placed into P and OnStar was notified of the event. We remained in the vehicle until one of our friends was able to take us home. Onstar contacted AAA to remove the vehicle to the nearest GM dealership.
